QUOTE(scpt @ Oct 31 2013, 03:00 PM) This whole lot cost me about HKD $ 245. I think the most expensive one was the Gingerbread Man which I paid HDKD $ 60 for. Around RM 24. Lizard Suit, Gorilla Suit and Frankenstein about HKD $ 55 - 60 each.Grabbed it since I was looking for the whole bunch there. I have some other minifig pics I took when I was at In's Point. Prices varies and unfortunately all shops had prices on display. Especially the sets. CMF Series - Those without stickers means sold out. I can't remember if all the CMF pics are from 1 shop. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Other minifigures and polybags » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

After a few days rest (muscle ache from hauling heavy luggage), I finally finished with this "post". Feel free to skip if it's too
"long winded" for you. I present to you: The Adventures of Bigfoot-X (& Mrs.Bigfoot-X): Hong Kong Edition (NOTE: If I have the time and patience, this would make for an awesome LEGO webcomic too!) Part I First of all, let me start by saying most of you know me to be a newbie to LEGO. I posted my haul a few days ago: ![]() Maybe no one noticed the background this time around (Maybe Empire TRU LEGO sales took the spotlight!) but this was my entire haul from HK. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « For the purpose of this forum, I'll stick to mainly LEGO-related updates. This trip was full of "firsts". It was the first time we used web check-in and also the first time I brought check in luggage for a fairly short trip (we travel light using backpacks for essentials). As I've also heard and read that LEGO in HK "can" be cheap, and I might be buying something, we decided to bring my backack and 1 check-in luggage (Number 1 and 2). Number 2 contained clothes, essential items as well Mrs.Bigfoot-X's backpack. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Ended up buying another luggage (No 3) but not satisfied with it so bought another (No 4) - more on that later. Thinking that we already used web checkin, we thought everything was sorted. Boy were we wrong! So wrong. When we arrived at the LCCT, Mrs. Bigfoot-X needed to use the washroom. After she was done, we proceeded to the AirAsia counter to check in our luggage. At the counter, there was a lady in front of us and she was next. There was an Indian couple arguing about their luggage being overweight. We were there for about 10 minutes. Made some small chat with the lady about the couple taking such a long time. When the couple left, the lady went to the counter said somethings, then turned around and told us that she couldn't check in her luggage (small cabin size) and maybe we couldn't too. We didn't really realize the impact her statement. When it was our turn at the counter, the staff told us we were too late and we cannot check in our luggage (suitcase No 2)! He said the trolley already left and there was nothing he could do. I gave a Bigfoot roar/protest but still he wouldn't budge. His only solution was to buy luggage and take it as hand carry. We asked him what about our luggage, we didn't have anyone that dropped us off as we took a taxi. My mind was racing fast, and we were running out of time. Our flight was at 7:10 am and it was already close to 6:30 a.m. I thought of packing our essentials into our backpacks and leave the luggage at the terminal, hoping airport would pick it up and keep it at the "Lost and Found". Mrs. Bigfoot was not agreeable to that as it was her luggage and she treasures her belongings. The AirAsia staff then suggested we store our luggage at Baggage Solution near Old Town White Coffee. Like a scene from "The Amazing Race", we rushed to Baggage Solutions and told them we need to store our luggage. They needed to know the duration and based on the size, the price came up to RM 190!!! Then they asked where was the security sticker. I said "Sticker apa?!?! Mana ada sticker?". The staff at Baggage Solutions said the counter staff was supposed to give us a sticker. I let out another Bigfoot roar and said nobody gave us no damn sticker. Why didn't the counter staff tell us we needed a sticker. The lady said it's ok then, we will have to pay for 1 day storage (RM 37 and pay the balance when we collect the luggage). After emptying the essentials (lucky we brought Mrs. BF-X's backpack), we ran to the Boarding Gate (like in Amazing Race) only to be told, "gate tutup. Tak boleh naik dah". I swear to god, I was about to Hulk out at that very moment. The staff radioed somebody and finally said "Hong Kong? Hong Kong masih sempat. Lain kali datang awal". Again we ran ... and those who've taken AirAsia know, their fricking planes are always taxi-ed at the other end of the world! We ran and ran and finally, we were the last 2 that arrived to board the plane. So long story short, we made the flight, just in the nick of time ... End Part I |

Part II
Our flight was on a Saturday (26/10/2013) and by the time we reached the hotel, it was almost 1:00 p.m. It was an exhausting day and we slept off for a few hours. Didn't manage to do much the first day. 27/10/2013, we decided to go for some famous Dim Sum. Located nearby was Let's Go. I added them on Facebook and thought I'd check them out. Let's Go Mongkok Room A2/A3, 1/F Chip Lee Building, 180 Sai Yeung Choi Street South, Mongkok Mon - Sat: 12:00 pm - 10:00 pm Sunday: 12:00 pm - 9:00 pm ![]() » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « As you enter the shop, left side of the wall, on the top shelf are all the big sets, Askham Asylum, Haunted House, Modulars. Below these are the Star Wars, Super Heroes, Lord Of The Rings and other licensed sets (I thought I took more photos but I guess I did not) (NOTE: Bigfoot-X and Mrs.Bigfoot-X edited out » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « On the right of the entrance is a glass shelf displaying minifigures, their counter and storage area as well as the other sets like City, Chima, etc » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « The owner, Cheuk was a very friendly guy. Offered to take our photos in his shop as well as take photos for us. As this was just a scouting mission, we left after a short chat of about 30 mins or so with the owner. After that it was off to In's Point. ![]() Most of the shops there opened late although I probably read the warnings (of the business hours) on cuteboiboi's blog. But I was probably too excited to remember. Also I didn't really plan on getting anything big from In's Point. Why? Cause Let's Go accepts credit cards. That was a major plus point for me. Ended up getting my 5 CMFs there. Lots of shops in In's Point selling various types of toys from pure LEGO to Hot Toys and other figures. There was a shop that had only Bruce Lee stuff, and another with only Batman stuff (which of course I was psyched to see!) Throughout the entire time, I was still deciding if I was going to buy anything from Let's Go. Prices seemed reasonable. Many things went through my mind: should I get this or that, how am I gonna carry it back, what about customs, will I get stopped and taxed, etc. The next step was to buy luggage, in case I planned to get anything (I also paid extra for 20 kg of check-in luggage at AirAsia). Saw a stall at a market selling luggage and backpacks and bought Luggage No 3 which was expandable via zips. Cost me HKD $ 150. A couple of days later, I saw Luggage 4 which was massive and bought that as well. Was HKD $450 but we walked away from the stall and the lady kept calling out and reducing the price up to HKD $250. After I got luggage 4, we headed back to Let's Go. So the total damage for my haul: LEGO: Batman Visual Dictionary - HKD $ 130 (RM 54.09) LEGO: LEGO Minifigure Year By Year - HKD $ 170 ( RM 70.73) 10211 - Grand Emporium - HKD $ 1,450 (RM 603.20) 10224 - Town Hall - HKD $ 1,620 (RM 673.92) I'd have hauled more but there was a total of almost 9kg of LEGO stuff. The 2 books alone weighed 3 kg (used digital scale at airport and weighed it). Plus the fact that Mrs. BF-X cannot carry any heavy stuff, I was left to haul almost 19 kg in Baggage (No 4) which contains my de-boxed stuff, as well as clothes and other stuff that we carried in our backpacks during arrival as well as Baggage No 3 and Mrs BF-X's backpack. We travelled everywhere by MTR. It was a noob learning experience for me. Seriously, hat's off to the bros here who manage to haul so much during their travels. I don't know how you guys do it, you have my respect! I don't know if I will (or can!) do it again or just buy it locally if forex continues not to be in our favour. Overall, a fun, exhausting experience! The End - The Adventures of Bigfoot-X (& Mrs.Bigfoot-X): Hong Kong Edition |

QUOTE(nickygin @ Nov 2 2013, 04:39 PM) Thanks for sharing your experience I can't say I did thorough research at In's Point as alot of the shops don't display the prices of their big sets. As long as I had savings, I was a happy man.Seeing that you bought your stuffs from "let's go", I guess that the prices at "ins point" are around the same? According to cuteboiboi's blog, he saw the VW Camper van selling for HKD $ 980 at one of the shops in March 2013. If not mistaken, I saw the price selling at Let's Go for HKD $ 930 or $ 940. Another price comparison that he had, which I also found online: 10197 - Fire Brigade (Sept 2009) HKD $ 1598.90 (RM 625.50 - Can't remember when I calculated this exchange rate) - HK Toys R Us price Let's Go (HK) - HKD $ 1,550 = RM 644.80 (21/10/2013) |

QUOTE(dilvin @ Nov 2 2013, 05:08 PM) Ur experience makes me wanna skip AirAsia & HK for Lego If you plan properly, I guess it should be ok. Better ask the more experienced tycoons how they do it, I can only share my first and only experience Btw, LLM's hotel is open .... I also feel like skipping after seeing the price QUOTE(zoomckng @ Nov 2 2013, 05:12 PM) Nice HK Lego hunt report. Anyway it's not worth carrying back from in point. Best thing to scout for is Minifigs, etc. Noob here There is a Lego shop in causeway bay that have a lot of eol sets, like Eiffel Tower, sw sets, etc But it was a good experience though ...... |

QUOTE(Mr. Alby @ Nov 2 2013, 06:03 PM) Sounds like a plan You go quite often right? Which month is the best time to go? I never heard of the massive sales like they have now. First time having this sales? Anyway I'm quite choosy with my sets as well. They may not have sale for what I'm looking for. Also other breaking news Batfans. Could this be the final artwork for 2014 Batman sets? Got it from Let's Go's FB page. ![]() |

QUOTE(bloodghost @ Nov 2 2013, 10:52 PM) Thanks for sharing bro Hi bro. I asked the boss to debox for me and he gave some suggestions ie Russian Doll style (put Town Hall contents into Grand Emporium bix and put GE box in TH box).In the end, I said to debox both and his staff packed the contents into 2 plastic bags for me. Threw those into my check-in luggage. I flattened both boxes and hand carry onto the plane. Forgot to mention in my previous post that I also bought travel insurance, just in case. As for the EOL sets, maybe you can send them a message on FB to ask? He gave me a VIP card and told me I can still order or he can still reserve sets for me. The only issue is the collection of the sets after ordering! |
