thanks for the info.  biggrin.gif

I've been looking at sasbadi lego site. An EV3 costs RM2100 and the NXT edu set at RM1850. If I were to open a club, I'm thinking at least getting 3 sets and that would cost about RM7K++. I don't think I can get even a fifth of that from the school  sweat.gif

I'm thinking of doing a proposal and try to raise fund and donation from companies here and there. Well, I'm gonna survey around and see whether I can outsource the set from other places.
*
Yes, local sasbadi is even more expensive than the regular EV3 set sold by forumers here doh.gif
That is why I say don't buy from local education. Go get from SG / US or somewhere else.

Btw, I noticed that there're two version of EV3. An Education kit and Home kit. One is about 2k while the other about 1.3k. Is there differences between them or Lego just trying to rip off schools  whistling.gif

EV3 Home kit looks cool tho. Maybe I should save up to get it for myself..  drool.gif

Check the differences here. Scroll down.

Found this online store..

bricklink.com

Anyone have experience with it? It's cheaper in here for the EV3 edu set. Although dunno how high it could be plus shipping to Msia.

Btw, do Legos got tax coming to Malaysia? If postage+tax is the same price range when buying locally, then need to search further.
*
LOL ... you should read more pages in this thread (or past threads).
Tax is 10%
EV3 is heavy, I would say at 42009 category of 2kg +/- including boxes/packaging for postage.

Hi, what kind of rechargeable battery is best for using on EV3 it needs 6 AA batteries, and 2 AAA batteries for remote control, i buy the normal 1, RM10 for 6 AA batteries, battery dry within 3 days, or is it possible to buy the education EV3 rechargeable to use on home version?
*
Best is of course the recommended EV3 education rechargeable battery.
Otherwise, have to use typical rechargeables in the market like Eneloop, Energizer, GP, etc. But these batteries are normally at 1.2V compared to alkaline 1.5
Therefore, 6x 1.5 = 9V
6x 1.2 = 7.2V, which is at the low-end.

I've wrote a few long posts on these batteries in previous few threads.

I just bought a 9V adapter, but no time to mod it yet.

ok thanks, i will read the the thread u share earlier,  but i not sure is the EV3 education rechargeble battery compatible with home edition not
*
EV3 rechargeable battery is compatible with all EV3 sets. Can take out that and replace with AA when run out of juice.
BUT EV3 rechargeable battery is not compatible to previous sets like NXT, RCX, etc.

I have a bunch of Eneloop AAA and AA now.

ok, can share how much the battery cost? Eneloop got many types of batteries or only 1 type?
do you have any idea where can i get EV3 rechargeable battery? and i saw that have to buy charger separately also right?
*
Beware got Eneloop and Eneloop Lite. Also got higher end versions like Eneloop XX
The standard one also got 2nd/3rd generations and sub-models, depending on latest batch number like HR-3UTGA-BP
Applies to both AA and AAA.

EV3 rechargeable batt, I think easiest will be through BL (if available). Not easy to go through education line, and our local sasbadi cut-throat and may not entertain us also.

If I really need a permanent power, I'll mod with an adapter. I'm doing that for my Technics stuff now.

so far I can't see any rechargeable battery selling in ebay, amazon or bricklink, i read your earlier post but i still dun get how to MOC it, I'm technic noob and i never own any technic set before, can you show me how it look like after MOC? and the cost is around how much?
*
yeah, I just check BL, maybe still new, nobody selling. Or could be NiMh import/export or courier regulations.
Do note that EV3 battery pack will make the EV3 box 1 stud thicker/higher, i.e. compare with when use 6x AA.

My Technic battery pack mod in spoiler. It's previous photos, as I have not have time to work on this further. I just bought some new connectors and the 9V adapter recently from Pasar Road (Pudu).

Since you are trying to build structure using "Technic" parts (axles, connectors) , this is a good book:

QUOTE(bloodghost @ Nov 1 2013, 06:27 PM)
it just use 8 aaa batteries (MOD) compare to the original 6 aa batteries can extend the battery life a lot longer?
*
AAA batteries has less juice than AA. Also rechargeables can't compare with alkaline in terms of continuous use.
8x AAA can last about 2-2.5 hours continuous use.
6x AA alkaline (Energizer/Duracell) can last 20-30% longer.

The main point is, I can recharge the batteries whenever I want. Alkaline, I need to keep buy and throw.
Or, buy the Lego rechargeable battery pack, which I think is nice, but cost wise is too high.

That's the reason I go for 9V adapter now, for some Technic stuff that won't run >2m radius away, I use it.
icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(tanghm @ Nov 1 2013, 07:22 PM)
Have you consider a freshly charged NiMH battery is 1.4V, using 8 of freshly charged rechargeables will end up 11.2V which may kill your motors and electronics.
Not recommended.
*
Yes, considered. I tested with voltmeter for my Eneloops. All my rechargeables are constant at 1.24V (+/- 0.03V) when fully charge. Once load is applied, it falls to 1.2V.
8x at highest ever recorded is 9.6V

OT: sounds rush, but for AA, we always plan to reach LCCT with 1.5 hours to go. The extra 30 minutes is to queue to check-in luggage. I think standard time is check-in luggage close when 60 minutes to flight.

we slept off for a few hours. Didn't manage to do much the first day.

It was a noob learning experience for me. Seriously, hat's off to the bros here who manage to haul so much during their travels. I don't know how you guys do it, you have my respect!  notworthy.gif
I don't know if I will (or can!) do it again or just buy it locally if forex continues not to be in our favour. Overall, a fun, exhausting experience!

LOL ... great trip ! You should be more prepared.
Your missus also Lego fan ? or you have quota to fill up for her shopping as well ? laugh.gif

QUOTE(Bigfoot-X @ Nov 2 2013, 05:11 PM)
I can't say I did thorough research at In's Point as alot of the shops don't display the prices of their big sets. As long as I had savings, I was a happy man.

According to cuteboiboi's blog, he saw the VW Camper van selling for HKD $ 980 at one of the shops in March 2013. If not mistaken, I saw the price selling at Let's Go for HKD $ 930 or $ 940.

Another price comparison that he had, which I also found online:

10197 - Fire Brigade (Sept 2009)
HKD $ 1598.90 (RM 625.50 - Can't remember when I calculated this exchange rate) - HK Toys R Us price
Let's Go (HK) - HKD $ 1,550 = RM 644.80 (21/10/2013)
*
Thanks for reading my blog smile.gif glad it help some Lego fans in HK.
Yeah, some prices drop along the way, especially for older sets which are still in production. Reason is, for initial release, they fly it over. Subsequent orders, they use shipping-by-sea, which is much cheaper but can take months.

I have a damaged part and I try request from Lego.com support services. No on reply me.
I post in their FB, someone reply and finally mail out after several more follow up.
Very bad service.

For missing part, they never bother to reply me.

All are genuine cases this year.

Submit several times to Lego.com, no response vmad.gif FB chase few times, only respond mad.gif Finally they mail to Kuala Lumpur.

Actually the point is, I want to see so-called Lego customer service, and looks like it is not good at all.

Cost/Replacement is not an issue as I can BL it easily.

very sorry to hear about this.

So far i have requested a couple of times, response is very good. parts sent out quickly and definitely get the item in <2 wks. But my friend told me if you always request, sooner or later they will ban you.  ohmy.gif

but then again normally if i have the part liao, i dont bother to request la. Or so happen I am also BL-ing, then just add the part in if the seller also got stock the item...

You request to send to Malaysia ? Or other countries ?

My first and second time experience, shows Lego has very bad customer service and support.

QUOTE(Bigfoot-X @ Nov 18 2013, 03:09 PM)

That is the standard auto-reply email.

actually for something with so many small parts, missing 1 piece out of say 40-50 boxes, i think its already very good leh...

and if you are serial AFOL lego unboxer/builder, i think if you can open so many boxes, definitely you are not a normal lego player but more a hardcore fan/adict/afol already and probably already heard about BL and also probably have ordered parts from there before la. So for me, if the cost for that piece is small, just BL it lo... my 2 sens...
*
It's not just the cost issue. It's the customer service and support. They have a web page for that, but without proper people at the back to work on these issues, it is useless.
