Worried about plants with pesticides ?
well i always put them in a small glass jar with a bag of active charcoal overnight or 2. if still worried I'll put a malayan into it to test, just one night and u can see how much one malayan can clean ( or poo ) esp when u place a plant with wood or wabikusa. so far no shrimp was harmed till this day. cheers This post has been edited by icedlink: Jan 18 2016, 10:19 PM |

I tried feed my shrimps with fresh coconut. (the harder flesh)
so far 4 days already still see them munching on it getting thinner day by day. what i like about it is it doesn't dirty the water (no fine particles) when they are eating it. so far no adverse effect. all of them malayan, rili , frs doing good in separate tanks. |

QUOTE(Bigboyz @ Jan 20 2016, 09:17 PM) its fresh coconut. size about 50 cents (old coin) thickness about 2 coins. now its paper thin. my setup is a fluval spec V, sealed the bottom filter hole, added thin dense wool like filter around the original filter (has a bag of carbon and bio media in the middle) for a snug fit, and above to cover it, bottom is ceramic balls, added a super fine SS mesh at top intake. a SS tea mesh, used for ADA bacter ball. last time didnt use SS tea mesh, shirmps literally destroyed the ball in a day. ended up with cloudy water for 5 days or so. now using mesh, much cleaner. even baby shrimps feeds on it. ball has been in there for about 1 month. now its powder like. about the BN Attached thumbnail(s) |

I cant say much from the comparison, as both is taken at different condition (pump location, its load, back ground sound level and distance to the mic).
I cant comment for the Hailea model (havent tried it) but I have tried all the fluval ones. Q0.5 Q1 and Q2. if you are looking for a silent pump from the fluval range Q2 is the only i can recommend, the two others are too noisy for me. I got my self 3 Q2 at home. SFSG. QUOTE(EternalC @ May 11 2016, 01:43 PM) lol i use one Q2 on a 20 litre (Spec) tank, the other Q2 splits each into several nano tanks, the last Q2 waiting to be deployed ^^Out of Fluval 3 tanks edge, spec and chi. (spec has the best design, i use it as a planted tank, with O2 and CO2 pumped into the back - post filter chamber, hidden from view) Btw RRP for Q2 is Rm89. |

QUOTE(okboon15 @ Jun 7 2016, 11:01 AM) Hi icedlink, I got mine from him too, now they are in a 3L tank with a sponge filter, and lava rocks.I got my initial 5 tails of upae ula from our dear Arrow here. Using the brackish water that comes together I put them in a jar (no filter and just an LED light over it). I think around 3~4 months time I start seeing a berried female. Since then, I've provide them with a proper 10L tank with a simple sponge filter. Although they said no filter is required, but I like to provide them a good living condition. I think I've around 40~50 tails now, around the course of 1.5 years. May i know the salinity of your brackish water? Mine is around 1.015 after i moved them to this new setup from a simple marina betta tank (plastic), have been troubled with brown diatoms. even the live rock he gave me is being taken over by algae. what do you feed them with ? my salinity is about 1.010 This post has been edited by icedlink: Jun 7 2016, 09:32 PM |

QUOTE(okboon15 @ Jun 8 2016, 11:52 AM) Normally gave them some Hikari crab cuisine, algae flake. But usually gobble up by the hermit crabs I got from PD. I put 3 of those as tank mate as well as 2 horn snails. brown diatoms ? - I dont know too Also got some really nice coral stone with thread like algae growing on top, but almost strip bare by those hermit... or maybe my light is not strong enough to stimulate growth. Salt water normally don't encourage algae growth, where are those brown algae came from?? hermit crabs and horn snails can live in brakish water. -- lol i didnt know ^^ |

QUOTE(arrow @ Jun 9 2016, 12:25 AM) brown algae/diatoms normally cos of the sand used have high silica content. if it on the glass, can use daiso magic sponge/cube to wipe it clean. thanks, i use JBL sansibar black and SL-Aqua volcanic rocks (probably too much silica like you mentioned) nerite snail can live in brackish/marine too. even some shrimps like long nose/mosquito shrimp, sunkist shrimp are in fact came from brackish water. sunkist shrimp too ? (the orange shrimp) ? |

but i like to disturb them a bit once in awhile to see if they are still ailve. (dig them up. they will dig in to the substrate again, they will dig to just above substrate open a slit to filter for food) This post has been edited by icedlink: Jun 9 2016, 05:21 PM |
