What a sad day. Woke up to find 4 dead Malayan shrimps in my tank, then only realized I forgot to switch on the air pump the night before

QUOTE(GTBlackIce @ Oct 4 2013, 11:51 AM) But, just curious... you turn on air pump every night? I don't have any air pumps whatsoever... just position my outflow pipe high enough to create surface agitation. It's still under the water, not above or mid water level. I guess with plants in it too... air pump's not required. At least for me... Only thing is if biofilm develops on the surface I'll just 'clean' it up a bit so the outflow can create vortex again, coz at times I could see quite a lot of CO2 bubbles on the surface. Haven't noticed any bio film lately QUOTE(arrow @ Oct 4 2013, 11:53 AM) I usually on before lighting period and off after lighting period. Or I'll make sure CO2 indicator turns lime green before turning it off.QUOTE(tzuen @ Oct 4 2013, 12:01 PM) have a same situation with you, 4 malaya shrimp dead 2 days, but not because i forgotten to switch off the co2, is i increase co2 to kill BBA. Seems i've accidentally increase it too much for the shrimps to take. Fishes are ok... IIRC your CO2 indicator is orange in colour right? |

Got a new batch of Cherry shrimps in the mailbox just now. Thanks a lot deric79k
Acclimatize the shrimps by using drip method for about 5-6 hours now. Just only put the shrimps into the aquarium, hope I do not get any casualties |

QUOTE(whitehawk @ Oct 30 2013, 07:02 PM) hi actually how long we need to acclimatize the shrimps. i just received RCS this afternoon and acclimate for 2 hours before put inside the aquarium. i know the period too short because i need to go out...hope do not get any casualitites... i saw 1 shrimp lying below 1 rock, i think it moulting... One lesson I learned is that you need to acclimatize shrimps much longer than for fish because they're more sensitive to water chemistry. I learned the hard way because most of my Malayan shrimps died, highly likely due to this. |
