Lately a bit busy with processing photos taken during vacation, tedious and tiring XD

Here's some of my earlier macro shots to poison potential "victims" laugh.gif

Shots taken with a 50mm F1.8g (~RM750 new) and extension tubes (RM15-200)~

Its best to use a flash also to "freeze the moment", as shots taken without flash will tend to require higher ISO sensitivities (more noise) for higher shutter speed. Even so it will still be prone to shakes. This was my 1st macro shot without flash lol

Elo bro, how close do you have to be with your target with 50 1.8 and et mounted on?

Hmm, about macro. Will reversing 24 and 50 for high magnification cheaper than a standard macro lens + raynox?

Using extension tubes or reverse mounts will definitely be cheaper than using dedicated macro lenses nod.gif
Of course, since they are cheap, they have some drawbacks. But usually this drawbacks are not that significant unless if you are trying to shoot moving or sensitive subjects  hmm.gif
*
Was interested in macro, but then the lens price was a turn down, even tamron 90sp also costs around 1k used.

Then saw those pros doing real good with reversed 50 and high magnification ones with reversed 50 and 24. Makes me itchy again. thumbup.gif provided i have enough time to learn though

Tried doing high magnification macro just now by reversing my 35 f2d. Been under the sun for sooooooo long and managed just 1 not bad look shot. Guess its time for a reverse ring or a proper macro lens

Some.. bug by QiAnG92, on Flickr

I think I missed the focus on the eye, but handholding the lens while shooting is so tough, hands kept shaking =(

Need ID on the bug, is it a type of long legged fly called Dolichopodidae?

Good try man, this particular fly is tough to shoot since its pretty sensitive nod.gif
You used flash for that shot right?

Maybe can try something that don't mind being shoot and larger? Much easier  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Yep flash fired, but its the built in flash though as I don't have any other flashes. In the hunt for some budget flash

Moth? by QiAnG92, on Flickr

I tried something bigger just now, but couldn't fit it properly into the frame, wind was too big, just spray and pray that the shots came in focus. Guess it's time to wake up earlier in the morning and take a walk around the neighbourhood for insects biggrin.gif

Um, If you don't mind, would like to ask 1 question, is it still possible to adjust our focus points for these macro shots? Like moving it to the other direction where we want the focus to be and move our body in and out to acquire focus in manual mode?

Wow! That requires a lot of patience. Good job! I am too looking to get a macro lens, not until I am able to sell my unused Sigma superzoom, can't afford to take care on too many lenses. Right now, Tamron  SP90mm got my eyes. I think it's better than investing on extension tubes and raynox 250 like most of my friends suggest.

But a question tho, what is 1:1, 1:2, on those macro lenses? Which one best at magnifying?
*
Thanks, I'm looking for a macro lens myself as well, currently considering a tamron 90 2.8 SP DI or nikon 105 2.8D, both used

Hmm, by using proper macro lenses I think it just makes shooting those bug a bit more convenient, we still need a lot of patient stalking them tongue.gif

If I'm correct, 1:1 is shooting the subject at life's size to your sensor, while 1:2 is like ... decreasing the size of the object, sorry not good in explaining, haha.

Well, built in flashes worked pretty well too with a little bit of modding, to channel the light onto the subject instead of being blocked by the lens hmm.gif

That is a Lawn Moth happy.gif
Yeah, perhaps can try something bigger but not on plants that are easily swayed by wind? hmm.gif

This shot took me a lot of tries because the wind was constantly blowing:

Beetles are very good for practice since they hardly move and are big as hell haha laugh.gif

If you are shooting manually, the AF points don't matter anymore
Its just a matter of choosing the right plane so that the things that you want to be in focus are in focus.
Its not that easy since the DOF is very shallow for Extension tubes and reverse lenses (at least that's what I've heard laugh.gif)

For instance, if you shoot from the side, everything will be in focus:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

But for the same shot taken from the front, notice how the ant and the back of the spider becomes out of focus?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Dedicated macro lens will be able to perform better in terms of DOF. Will update once I get to try it out~

As for focusing, I prefer the "move-body-backward-and-forward, estimating-when-to-press-the-shutter" method over adjusting the focus ring. The latter I think is more suitable if you are on a tripod and not subjected to handshake
*
Hmm, I see, your photo with reverse lens is already this good, with a true macro lens sure become super awesome d tongue.gif

Yea I'm using the rocking body forward and backward method too, but I use live view instead of the viewfinder because I'm still handholding the reversed lens hehe

No need so susah first la, just reverse your lens and you get instant macro. An external flash would definitely help, without any diffuser or modification it can still produce decent picture, but you need to angle the flash really nicely. I also found out that built in flash produce better result once you can balance the ambient and flash.
*
Yep yep, I was amazed too after I saw the outcome from the shots using the built in flash when they weren't blocked, especially for super small insects

Hi you guys, wanna get some of your opinions on which to buy first: 35mm f/2D or 24mm f/2.8d I can't fully decide. sweat.gif

I'll be using the lens on a film camera if that makes any difference.
*
On film both are pretty wide, I think the different is just whether you want wide or plenty wide.

For me 35 works quite well for general use, but I think it still depends in your habit, as in which focal length do you feel more comfortable with

I plan to upgrade to D600 due to noise performance on FX is better than DX and D600 price are much more cheaper than D610, while there is not much different on the feature between D600 and D610.

I mean if using same lens, 24-70 f.28, compare the photo shoot by D600 and D7000 at ISO1600, S100 F2.8, D600 deliver sharper image. The quality variance between D600 and D7000 look more obvious when ISO3200.
*
Is the difference really that big? If they're both using the same lens then I think sharpness would be equal right? Since... same lens blink.gif

I've used my D7000 at ISO3200 countless of times and I have to say they're quite good actually, or like Silverfire mentioned, maybe you didn't nail the focus? Or maybe you need a higher SS due to the crop sensor? hmm.gif

Then in such cases, it is safe to say better avoid it?? How do you guys feel about the AF-D 80-200mm?? Im quite on a tight budget or the Tamron 70-200mm VC (Import) set is better?? Mind sharing your opinions?? I would actually get a Nikon 70-200mm VRII but that just cost way too much for me XD.. haha
*
Me me, I have the 80-200 AFD two touch, the optics are nice, and the built quality is, well like others have mentioned, built like a tank, albeit a little soft at 2.8, AF is quite nice too with D7000, hunts a bit la when the light is really low, but I think that's D7000's AF problem.

Cons: Too heavy, a bit CA wide open in high contrast area(easily fixable in PP though), hmmm I think that's about it.. It's really a bargain for the price now, considering that it used to be a pro lens in its times, for beginners like us its more than enough.

I'm letting mine go, feel free to check my thread in my siggy below if you're interested =p Prefer primes myself, noticed that I always stick to 80mm n walking around in that FL and ends up stressing myself, no point carry that heavy tank around but don't utilize it fully. tongue.gif

My 80200 now pretty much my essential tool for work, without it very susah ooo wanna cover events laugh.gif

Especially to get those candid moments and facial expression smile.gif
*
yalo, that's 1 of my problem too, with my d7000 the highest i go is iso 3200, and with those ballroom lightning, only able to mantain around 1/100ss at 80mm, guess I'll have to increase to 6400 iso le to work with the large FL

QUOTE(AuraSapphire @ Oct 31 2013, 11:36 PM)
Wow, very good price indeed. But kind skeptical about shipping camera lens. Feels like no matter how well it is packaged, theres sure some way it might get screwed up XD. haha

What do you think of this picture, guys? Went for a landscape, took a lot pictures.
Only this one is decent enough for me.  sad.gif
Others are failed compositions, out of focus etc. Sometimes it's just too tiring. Haha!

I think getting that landscape filter set would be good now. Not relying on AF too much would be a good idea too. It beeped, but when I get to see the pics on PC, most are out of focus. The lighting was too extreme I guess.

Nice pic bro, you got talent in this notworthy.gif

Hmm, I like the lines curving into the forest, it'd be super nice if there's something at the end of the lines, hehe, thinking too much.

Bad part I think the sun? Maybe a GND will fix this, but then looking at it longer, somehow the overexposed sun sort of ... highlights the foreground.

=.= I'm not pro in this, just giving my noob 2c

Try searching up Serge Ramelli in youtube, he teaches a lot of free tutorials in how to PP landscape pictures in either lightroom or photoshop. He taught a lot about dodge and burn and multiple exposures and stuffs. May be of help to you guys

My lightroom workflow for landscape mostly learned from him, helped me improve a lot =)
