Hi Guys, not sure if this has been posted earlier, but in case your handwriting panel isn't working, here's a really strange bug that causes it to stop working on 30th September:

Those who hate ( I am one of them) the faux leather back covers , there are now alternatives in EBay

BASEUS back cover : 6 color choices

METALLIC ALUMINIUM : 15 color choices

Hi guys just a heads up. I am super tempted by the metal rear cover. Really cannot stand the 4G logo and the faux leather backing. But there are concerns on the metal potentially impacting your signal strengths. Here's a blind copy and paste from androidcentral forums. Original link:

QUOTE
I have the back cover the OP linked to. It is labeled as metal and plastic because the back is metal over a black plastic frame.

It WILL block your NFC chip. Any piece of metal will.

It WILL decrease signal strength between 3 and 9 dBm. It's not a lot. If you are in an LTE area you won't notice. If you are in an area with already bad signal, this could be a significant issue.

Buying real carbon fiber is as bad as metal. It blocks signals due to the carbon weave. Kevlar weave is something you want. Look at the Motorola RAZR back material as an example.

You could potentially use the detailed battery stats to determine what's really using up your battery. Another possibility are background processes that are running and waking up your phone from time to time. I've turned off most of the Samsung stuff, backup sync, Google stuff etc and my awake time is drastically reduced, most of the time "awake" only registers when the screen is on. On average, my battery drops from 100% to 96% from 12:00am till 9:00am.

You can go to your applications manager to turn off stuff you don't need, but be careful as to what you switch off as it may affect some functions that you use. I turned off a number of Google services as there was a particular Google process causing my phone to wake up from time to time. Turned it off and it rarely wakes up now. Good luck and hope this helps.

Hi gin&tonic, sure thing, here you go. Hope you guys don't mind the multiple screenshots as there's quite a lot of apps that I turned off.

Do try it progressively so as to make sure the functions that you use daily still works. I.e for me google now, direct share, Samsung account, group play etc are not important, hence I disabled them. However, you guys may use it, so be careful as to what you disable to make sure some things are not broken.

Also, to help improve things, go to Google maps - > Settings -> Google Location Settings and disable "Location Reporting".

Hope this helps smile.gif

No worries man. Am uncertain about why mine shows "Turned off" whilst your's is "Disabled". That's new to me too. Perhaps some firmware variation I suppose. sad.gif

every time i check my battery, i had discovered that the wifi is always awake although i off it. after google bout it, seems like it is a new feature in android 4.3 to help get better accuracy on our location by scanning for nearby wifi. more about it in the link below and how to disable that feature...

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2422689,00.asp

essentially, for note 3
Go Settings --> Connection tab --> tap Wi-Fi --> tap menu button --> tap advanced --> uncheck Scanning always available

this should turn off wifi entirely... sorry if this is known, new to 4.3 so jz sharing what i had found out... cheers~~~

Unfortunate indeed that the KNOX indicator can't be reset. I suppose that after a few months once the development community is up and vibrant, rooting is potentially an option since the warranty will be running out by then.

That being said, I did send a rooted phone in for warranty before (SGS3) and it had the new bootloader with the red ! at the top left of the screen. Samsung did not complain about it. They just re flashed and the exclamation mark disappeared.

I suppose this might be dependent on country to country and what's key is to get a comment from someone within Samsung Malaysia to comment on whether the KNOX warranty thing is an issue. Just my 2 cents on the matter and to share my experience.

Good share fruitie! Perhaps coming from the destEX's perspective, it could really depend on the SC that we send it to? Perhaps time to build a whitelist of SC that have more amicable policies. I sent my SGS3 to 1Utama.

Unfortunately my binary count was 3 and got rejected by Samsung SC in LYP when my Note II was suspected to have SDS in late August.
Luckily, managed to clear it using Triangle Away when I got to turn it on... Then, flashed back to stock and sent in to Pandan Indah SC, they entertained and fixed my phone. sweat.gif

Thankfully, my IMEI wasn't blacklisted when I sent in to LYP that time. sweat.gif
On another note, the photos captured from Gear looks much better than Note II's camera. sweat.gif

Good share. Will add Pandan Indah SC to my list of OK SC thumbup.gif

The 1Utama one was a real pain. More than a week to return my device. The queues there are as bad as some government office rclxub.gif

Ya, I do think also depends on the technicians on duty. laugh.gif
I was a bit unlucky that time, he said no. Change motherboard and you will have to pay yourself, RM 650. sweat.gif

I was thankful to God that I managed to switch it on which solved my problem after that. Pandan Indah SC is always my favourite SC but it is a bit too far from me... Anyway, Pandan Indah SC is really professional and fixes phones efficiently. Very fast. thumbup.gif
