My cgpa is 2.77 which is not good in my opinion and it has been 1 year after my graduation. I graduated abroad though with scholarship.

It seems like its hard to land a job interviews especially the bigger companies from my 1 year experience of job hunting. I didnt put my CGPA at all because I dont want people to focus on that. Is it the right thing or not.

If I got any interviews, its more harder to got job offers.

Degree in engineering, currently in insurance industry which is totally different.

okay, but here's my story.

graduated in chemical engineering.

first job, I got into biotech company but then the project delayed until its closed down - so its like no experience at all

2nd job, after searching a lot of engineering jobs, then proceed to finding management jobs randomly, i got into management trainee in insurance cmpany

I just dont want to be unemployed for a long time like before my first job.
So right now, I would really like to try again in engineering companies as I wanted to be in it.

1.It's hard to find a job in chemical industries. - aka chemical engineering
2. Most of big companies prefer candidates with experience.
3. start from the bottom because u don't have anything to sell
4.CGPA doesn't reflect anything

My CGPA = 2.87, but im Professional Engineer (Ir) and competent engineer 33kv.

From my opinion, I think most of ppl didnt indicate cgpa in the resume. 1st place u will out if they saw ur cgpa below 2nd upper. What u hv to do is gain more related experiences fpr the job that u want to do. Get a chance and try ur best to work in mnc company. If u hv mnc experience, degree cert is not the 1st priority for them to hire. As mnc experience can apply in many different type of company. Include the smc or sg local company. Of course, it can be apply to others mnc as well. Think twice....

1) First point right! Unfortunately the chemical engineering i learnt is very general to be honest. just theory etc.. not specific into job skills
2) Big companies, yeah, they wouldnt look at me at all. been to Petronas interview, got the reply the next day sad.gif still disappointed
3) I want to start from bottom but even smaller companies had doubt with me, i really dont care to do hardcore works lol
4) truee.. but im really clueless on what is wrong

But even mnc companies wont hire me. I have tried emailing, both to a specific position advertised and also general application.

Could you share with me how to effectively score in interviews? At least from your experience

haha different questions already icon_rolleyes.gif

Petronas - They wont hire fresh graduate unless u have at least 5 years experience.
Most of company prefer man rather than woman to work in engineering field - major factor, woman cant think outside the box even they have good credit in the paper.
U can start as project engineer, station in petrochemical plant with sub-contractor, i hv seen many fresh graduate start their career as project engineer,
Im not consider successful, because i wasted my youth!

thats consider lucky, or else they studied under Petronas scholarship or technician level. Petronas is semi-gov company, their hiring process not based on gender and the process of recruitment is handled by HR , its different from private where the process of recruitment is under direct supervisor.

I think you it's optional but many companies will want that information.

Dun be too scared to apply companies just because of your low CPGA. In engineering world, CPGA is not very important, but those professional certs and experience are important. Just try to apply smaller companies, then learn from bottom. No choice since you do not have the high CPGA advantage, and yea then nail your interview, some first class student cannot communicate well with people and they are very demanding.

Show your sincerity and honesty to work in the company. Then nail it in your interview... all the best..

If above average, yes. Otherwise, leave it.
