MS just announced at CES that all devices with screen size of 9in or less will come with free Windows & MS office. Since manufacturers no longer require to pay licensing fee, the price of devices are slashed. This is MS strategy of leveling the playing field with Google for small devices.

By this week, all apps written for WP 8.1 phones, will run on Win 8.1 pc under metro UI. This unification of apps for phones, tablets (RT) & pc is on-going. The Win 8.1 store is getting more exciting !

My Lenovo Mixx 2 without sim card model has GPS. Local Lenovo finally brought it for sale in Msia after poor uptake & withdrawing from USA market. Its still the thinnest Win8.1 tab out there.

Basically if you are in business, these sort of tablets are very useful to do some light MS Office work while traveling. For stock brokers, its a blessing as you have real time full featured access to the market while on the go. Android & IOS apps dont seem to cut it for them cause many have noticed what's displayed on their tablet seemed to be delayed at times. For things like reply emails, smartphones are the choice most of the time. For uni students taking notes is a blessing due to the long battery life & the flexibility of completing their assignments, copy & paste across MS office, linking excel charts & worksheets is all enhancing their capabilities following their graduation & moving into the job market. I notice this weakness for Android/IOS generation graduates cause they struggle when it comes to using business programs.

QUOTE(jeopardise @ Sep 8 2014, 03:07 PM) I can't live with 16GB internal memory as I can't breathe with 32GB with Iconie W3. This is not Android tablet, Windows surely need more space and RAM. Can always add 64gb microsd to increase storage & embed it as part of c drive. Then all yr programs can install & run off microsd. Also can partition part of the 16G as virtual memory to assist the 1G ram. I believe this will make it a more usable device.

QUOTE(jeopardise @ Sep 8 2014, 04:33 PM) Some programs like Adobe Creative Suite, Office won't install on 'removable' drive. Believe me, I've tried. No I've installed adobe Acobat, Photoshop, Illustrator in the sdcard. You can only do it once u mount the sdcard as part of C drive. Once mounted, sdcard will not show in explorer as removable drive. You can google up on how to do that. I've open & edit large raw files this way as i partition another 6GB of my 64GB microsd as virtual memory. The huge file takes awhile to open due to slow atom processor but at least it can be done.

QUOTE(jeopardise @ Sep 9 2014, 11:07 AM) The bottle neck is the SDcard IO, not the Atom. Even if I could install my programs to SDcard, I still prefer my removable storage to store only my other files for easy backup. Putting swap to sdcard will kill it faster. I doubt i can kill my sdcard this way since none of the cards on my tablets have burned out yet. If it dies, its probably time to ditch the tablet for a faster newer model. My preference is all storage files goes to one drive for easy access across multiple devices including my Lumia. So the sdcard is has more than sufficient space for programs.

Windows 10 more like for those who are still stuck with Win7. For the rest that have moved on to Win8, Win10 is like a step back. The whole purpose of a pc or tablet is to get it to do what you want....not mess with the OS setting, driver issue & crashing. At the end of the day, will you rely on this equipment with Win10 or older Windows to do important work? If you just use it play play then ok. But you sure go back to previous versions (whatever it was) that is the most stable & trusted. If MS still can't get Win10 in order by year one, I'll be happy to give up the free lifetime update offer.
