Anyone experiencing this problem with Skype on W4.
Earlier I have no problem with both front & back camera but since last week the front camera is not working anymore.
Any idea how to solve this?
*
Launch Skype > Settings > Options > Set Camera to "OV2722".

If does not work, re-install Skype and ensure to allow Skype to use microphone and camera(s).

Thanks azeemzuhair, it works!

BTW I tried to uninstalled Skype last night from Control Panel>Uninstall Program but the Skype app wasn't in the list for me to uninstall. Any idea why?
My intention was to uninstall & then re-install again.

depends on which Skype u hv installed. If desktop, uninstall via Control Panel. If Modern Metro app, uninstall at the modern metro page.

I use the modern metro version as it is lighter.

Sorry but may I know what do you mean by "modern metro page". Thanks.

Windows 8/8.1 has embedded the mobile apps platform in it. Other than running 32-bit software, u can also run mobile apps in the modern metro page/UI. The apps in downloaded from Microsoft Store.

Therefore, modern metro page = mobile apps = touch-friendly interface = Windows RT = Windows Phone 8.1......? = "THE" START button at the bottom left corner.

FYI, Windows RT = Windows RunTime = CANNOT install 32-bit EXE files.

Microsoft is in trouble now because they know they are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy behind Android and iOS when it comes to mobile platform. They are also aware their Windows 32- and 64- bit platform is also under attack by Linux. So, in order to win both battles, they created Windows 8.1 which embedded mobile platform as a "START". Expect extraordinary experience in the next Windows 9.....

I have to agree on that. Not all Daiso branch carries the same stock / items in their premise. But i believe the bigger branches have more options and varieties.

Anyway, i just use ordinary 13" size back pack to carry my naked W4. Can put more stuff like drinks, powerbank, MiFi, mouse, keyboard, etc. in the bag. Will only use the touch function when in train, toilet, queuing to buy food, movie ticket or pay stuffs, etc.

So, anyone tried the 3G version of W4? Any significant differences?

Already using this unit for more than 3 months accompanied by daily drive Lenovo P780, i have to admit that they both are the best combo for road warrior and on-the-go daily routine.

Hotspot via P780 for more than 12 hours on a single charge makes W4 without 3G is a value buy.

While receiving/making business and personal calls, Whatsapp, Viber, Skype, Tango and the like via P780 is a splendid experience; replying emails, watching YouTube, remote access and miscellaneous business activities make W4 the right tool for workaholic people (like me..... LOL)...

Many of my audience is shock to see me present PowerPoint via W4 thru micro-HDMI port. They never expected Windows 8.1 can run in such a small tablet.

Now, let's wait next week whether Microsoft Surface MINI is the right replacement for W4 later.

How I wish the MS Mini is a full Windows 8.1 having dual SIM capabilities with HSDPA+ or maybe LTE. Built-in Wacom technology as well as Qi charging & certified IP55/58 will make it a unicorn. Reliable camera with OIS is a bonus. Just take my money for whatever cost it may be... LOL...

Personally speaking, if you use Bluetooth tethering with your phone, both of them can very well go for even longer (as Bluetooth eats less power). And it isn't actually that slow actually vs WiFi tethering - it's just a bit more troublesome (a bit more steps to prepare and to connect).

Just consider it a little tip for when you really need the W4 + phone combo to last longer on a single charge.

Oh... thanks for the tips. But I use the P780 as hotspots connecting 4 other devices simultaneously. Still, the mega-capacity of the P780 phone can last for more than 12 hours on a single charge...

I always carry my "generic" non-branded powerbank. Can charge at 2A but not for 1A port... So, yeah, W4 micro-USB "hole" seems to be very "moody" most of the time... I think my W4 is a girl...LOL... "moody" for a week during any month...LOL...u can't just "shove" any "cable" from any "power" port coz she ain't treat your "power" pleasantly...

hi guys, just wanna to know will 1G rams sufficient for normal surfing and minor office work.

planning to buy the coming acer 8W but new to window 8.1

tks.

Normal surfing as in 5 tabs of browsing heavy contents website. If u browse tumblr page with full/lots of GIFs in it, then u start to realise 1GB RAM is insufficient...

The same goes for office spreadsheet/Excel. Exceeding 1000 rows of one sheet in Excel will start to bog down the system.

Microsoft is in panic mode now because there are thousands of tablets running under Android platform. They have to ensure Windows platform stays in the mainstream or else no one will buy Bill Gates shares in the New York stock exchange...
