Since both consoles are now really cheap, i would like to buy either an xbox or a ps2 to australia during my 2 month stay there. After that, my sister which is situated in australia will be using it.

Since i'm a total newbie when it comes to console, are all consoles in malaysia compatible with the tvs there? I heard about ntsc pal and things like that so is there gonna be some issues to those?

i wont be buying any games there, will hoard all the games here to there.

Besides the games, when it comes to function only, which one is a better bet? Xbox or ps2? Both can play dvds rite?

Hope you'll hardcore console'ers can help me out. Thanks~!!

For travelling, best bet is PS2 Slim....you wouldn't want to lug around an XBOX...OR alternatively, (a very good option)...is to buy an XBOX, load a bigger HDD inside(say 80GB or more), dump in LOTSA games into the HDD and you can play it over there for 2 months. Beats carrying disc around (also no worries with customs...if u know what i mean, mate smile.gif ).
I think Australia is PAL.

A modified XBOX can display both PAL and NTSC signal me thinks, i can test it out and let you know later.

Anyway, if you have a multi-system tv in australia, it should work also since most tv from last 5 years should be multi-system.

The only concern is if you intend to buy ori games over there which might not work on ur machine. But if you do it the XBOX way...no worries...smile.gif

I've never encountered heat problem with my PS2 Slim. Of course, if you're the type that plays 24/7, then sure die-ler...if u only play about 3 hours at one session. it shouldn't be a problem.

Between PS2 and XBOX, i would recommend PS2..
Eventhough it has better graphics, some really good games are only available on the PS2.. just my 2 cents..

I personally recommends PS2..

Why?
- More title choices..
- Great selection of PS2 only games for example Soul Calibur 3, Tekken series, Final Fantasy series, Onimusha series, Devil May Cry series, God of War series, RAW vs Smackdown series, Grand Turismo series, Metal Gear series, Kingdom Heart series and the list goes on and on...
- Compatible with both PAL and NTSC
- Can play DVD movies, PS1 games and audio CDs.
- Still have lots of titles down the line even when PS3 is released.. unlike X-BOX which got ignored after the release of X-BOX 360..
- Can still play your PS2 games collection on your PS3 console..

The normal price is around RM699 +- a little.

If you get something that's way too cheap than most shops, i suggest you don't be pound wise but penny foolish. Very likely it's a recond set.

You'll waste RM500+ instead of saving the RM100+.

1 thing i would like to know.. does our goverment tax imported PS2 units??
cos on oversea Sony website.. PS2 slim are selling for less then USD150!!

summore during christmas (deec2005) they sold if for USD99!! RM400!!

so if convert to malaysian ringgit, ORIGINAL units are not suppose to cost more then RM600.. and Sony Style Malaysia 'ONLINE STORE' is selling it for RM799..
WTF! vmad.gif

online stores are suppose to be CHEAPER cos there is no brick\mortar store, the savings is supposed to pass back to the customers.. all this is e-commerce basic fundamentals and here they are blatantly screwing clueless buyers..

why dont you try to find a shop that has a good reputation and buy there.. not going to someplace because u ASSUME he's selling better stuff because his stuff is priced slightly more then the cheapest shop..

i would recommend Maxlink(level 1) at Endah Parade, Sri Petaling.
I bought my unit there 4 years ago.. Havent had any problems till now(minor only, cant read 1 or 2 DVDs,most probably dust).. i still go there every other week just to check their games..
they sell Logicool(logitech wireless controller) too for RM180(can nego)..

Also i would recommend you to get your PS2 unit from DJINN.. he's a super helpful fella in this forum and i sincerely believe this type of people are not out to con you in the first place (which is good grounds to do business between both of you)..
