hai everyone,

i have hit my plateau recently. seems like i cannot increase my weight anymore. i have found some info in the forum and also some tips mentioned that to change our workout routine and most of it recommended 5x5 stronglift for strength training. Its performing a workout 5 set, 5 rep for each set. My confusion is do we increase the weight every set, or just maintain the weight for 5 sets.

Would like to have some input on this issue. thanks in advance to the experts.. biggrin.gif

If you can increase, then you should. If not, do it until you are able to support the weight.

Be informed that SL is about on the same level as starting strength, it's for beginners. If you have been lifting for a while, you would have gained enough benefit from these workouts hence the plateau (I am assuming you know what you are doing with nutrition here).

Look up wendlers, 5/3/1 or even madcow for intermediate lifts. If you think you're not up for it or would rather stay at beginner level and want some variety in your routine then by all means try SL.

5/3/1 is the perfect balance of strength and size.

know your goals (size, strength, both), find a reputable program, follow it.
eat,sleep,train. rinse and repeat

I disagree on the programme is for beginner. I'm squatting 195kg and the programme is still working good. Except right now I'm doing 3x5 for squats and 5x5 for everything else. Going 3x5 is what you should do once 5x5 becomes "impossible" (my mind). Read the programme TS, definitely recommend it.

But commitment to the programme is crucial.

thanks guys for the input. i have read through about Madcow and 531. But i found 531 is hard to digest. LOL. probably i was reading it at the office.

One other thing, before i start lifting my weight is 85-88kg 2 years back, on and off hitting the gym, but since last year after raya i'm getting more serious. currently my weight is 100kg and my height is 180cm.

Do you guys think i should cut down? supposely my ideal weight is 75-80kg. and i would like to know the essence of cutting. Is it just maintain our workout routine and apply calories in vs calories out....or calories in vs calories out and change my workout to moderate intensity and high volume?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Look for gaining strength while cutting.
