I find that firefox 1.5 eating up a lot of my memory like around 50-80mb if i open around 6-8 tabs. Is this common or is there anywhere to reduce it?

I found that firefox browser is much better than IE. More stable and it loads web pages slightly faster

normal i think. mine is around 150mb, i think its when you open too many tabs and it'll cache alot of files. unlike explorer it doesn't take much of your physical space even when you off it

Note that the more extensions you have, the more memory firefox will take.

If you are worried about the memory usage of firefox, you can try typing about:config at the address bar. Right click to create a new integer and enter the preference name as browser.cache.memory.capacity and set the size you want the cache to be (in kilobytes). Then, you are done. Restart firefox for the changes to take effect. Not sure it works though but it works on me.

you can also add this trim memory when minimize..

create new boolean :

config.trim_on_minimize set the value to true

..there you go..

edit : add pic

That's normal i guess, cause mine also like that. Use some tweaker software like firetune if you wish to make it somsume less system memories.

Try reducing the number of extensions you are using and the cache size as well.

Does the FireFox tweaks work to help improve the consumption of memory ?
