QUOTE(heavyduty @ Oct 23 2013, 12:29 AM) like it or not the AAV is going to be essential if the MoD so choose to establish marine corpsafaik the only country that produce that kind of vehicle are USA and China(china got their own AAV too...even went as far as calling it as "Advanced" AAV) .............................. i think the size of one brigade is enough for our marine corps. and we need to procure additional ACV-300 and them landing crafts as well |

it's not about boleh buat ke x boleh. like our brand new training ship. we build it under DSME supervision. but now with all them FAC replacement, OPV project, lekiu batch 2? heheh .....cukup tangan ke nk buat benda2 ne semua
besides afaik makassar-class design is derived from ferry so i don't think it's that complicated. it's not the shipbuilding itself that we have prob, but the electronic suite (radar, sonar, system integration, etcetc ) |

with the debacle surrounding james shoal, spratlys, etcetc, i have huge doubt that Mindef will seriously considers chinese weaponry, especially the one with such strategic importance (klu setakat ATGM or manpads boleh lagi la kot)
no matter.plenty other option out there. if PAC-3 or S-300 is considered as out of reach, we can always opt other systems. them korean KM SAM is nice, but the system will be only fully operational in 2018. there's other system that we can consider. NASAMS, Buk M2, maybe can also ask Unker sam for surplus PAC-2 |

lebih kurang je rasanya
![]() our sgpv is also around 3000ton range but i think we should opt for 76mm gun and phalanx though (there might be a possibility to arm our sgpv with JSM. though i'm perfectly fine with MM40 mark 3) well there's also the issue of streamlining logistics so i can understand why we choose 57mm guns and them 30mm cannon |

if there is one thing good about 57mm gun we're currently using, it's the rate of fire.
like i said previously, it's about logistics. we're only getting one vessel right now. it's probably better to streamline the ammunition calibre, rather than getting a new one (76mm). having a different calibre gun will disrupt logistics in all naval bases so unless we're getting, like 3 more SGPVs, i think 56mm gun and the secondary 30mm msi gun is sufficient. yes we want our new toys to be all fly but maintaining it is equally important |

heheh it has it's critics
i prefer if rela and auxiliary police to be merged. or transform rela into something like philippines CAFGU http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizen_Armed...ographical_Unit but i think both option is quite redundant di malaysia yang aman dan makmur ini. rela,if anything, is only to assist law enforcement during operation. like potato in beef curry (to make the curry to become more) |

replace with SGPV. at 3000 tonnes and costing MYR1.5bil, it's pretty much a frigate

what's wrong with MM40 block 3 anyway?
as for the air defence, should be aster 30 but i'd take mica if that means more missile that can be carry. this is SGPV people, not DDG. should be a big advance compared to sea-wolf besides we've operated both exocet missile and ds30 gun currently. is it really cost effective to use totally different weapon system on just one ship? |

i don't think DS-30 is what you can call a CIWS. DS-30 should be as secondary gun for the ship. it took oto melara role, to shoot pirate, mundus, speedboats filled with kiram's boys in the water, that kind of thing.
i understand what you mean, though. some ship have both system installed. Mica can take the role of asm defence, though having a CIWS meant that the ship has higher survivability against asm. at 3000k ton, it can accomodate both system( DS-30 and CIWS) which leave us air defence missile. i'm contented with having Mica, though we should go for aster-30 |

the reason why the skill retention isn't being maintained during NGPV construction is PSC-ND fark up so hard. bousted got to bail them out on remaining ship. different company in charge now
and DS-30 is not a ciws. QUOTE(pcboss00 @ Oct 28 2013, 11:30 AM) Technically, MICA-VL cheaper to opt than ESSM. MICA don't need launcher because their storage canister already worked as launcher. What make ESSM more expensive, they need extra hardware; 2 illumination radar and launcher. meaning Mica doesn't need...........whatitsname....penetrasi dek |
