I tried from 5.1.1 but couldn't get the notification for iOS7 update. but my other iPad on 6.1.3 was able to detect it after upgrading from 6.1.2.I would like to know can i direct upgrade my current ios 5.1.1 to ios 7?

Try again tomorrow, if you still can't then maybe you'll have to upgrade to 6.1.3 first
