Ya, I saw you too. You must be the Pierce Bronson look-alike carrying a big brief case with RM100 bills coming out at the side. Right? Ha.

Buying ASX units or tengok Ah Mui?

None of the above.

Like to know whether there is an FD (or something similar to it) for 1-3 weeks instead of month.

Why? Sometimes I have FD maturing but don't need it till 1-3 weeks later.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Had a quick look. More like UT than FD. Capital can become smaller? I would not want to risk my capital just for a few weeks of saving.

AFAIC, there isn't any FD for 1-3 weeks in Malaysia. The closest you can get is CIMB Money Multiplier current account.
2.5%pa on your daily balance
Can make 3 free withdraw any time within a calender month.
Can issue payment by chq.
No ceiling limit.

It is an ideal account to park your fund in this account for short term basis cos this account is as liquid as any other current account and fund can be deployed instantly via chq without any upper limit. You will earn 2.5% (last time was based on 1-Month FD rate 2.9%) on your daily balances.

Thanks. Will look into this.

Need your feedback.

I have one FD due at the end of this month. But I will be away for the Chinese New Year.

Either
a. I withdraw from a bank in another town (is this allowed?)
or
b. I pre-sign and ask the bank to transfer the amount to my saving
account in another bank.

Possible?

Thanks.

Happy, Rewarding & Prosperous Chinese New Year to all our Chinese colleagues here!

a) it depends on the bank system.
Some don't allow interbranch withdrawal.
Some restrict the amount of interbranch withdrawal
Some are ok, (particularly foreign bank, whereby most of them practice cert-less FD system).

b) As far as I knew, as long as it is own/same account, most doable.
It depends on bank system, some can, some can't.

OK thanks.

Will check with the bank.

Why not let the bank auto-renew your FD?
Another option is to open a Savings account (with high-yield interest) with the same bank. Remember to change your FD renewal instruction to deposit into your high-yield Savings account upon maturity, hence you would still be earning interest while you are away.

Need the money as planned in my budget.

Interested to know what is the rate for the saving account with high yield interest you mentioned.

Which bank has this?

For some sharing on the question I raised earlier ....

Called BR,
a. branch FD withdrawal is allowed but for max RM50K
b. pre-signed withdrawal and transfer to another bank are allowed!

So, I will do (b).

Another sharing here (= airing my frustration here!)

I mentioned earlier that I wrote a letter to BR asking them to transfer the FD $ to another bank account as I would be out of town on that day. They accepted the instruction , I signed all the required docs.

But the transfer was not done when I checked days later! I have one important payment due. So I have to run around trying to get some money and deposit it into another account for the payment.

Came back to Bintulu and asked BR why the transfer was not done. Answer was the officer called me to confirm the transfer. I was not aware of the call as I was busy at the airport. I called back later but no one answered.

I had a chat with the manager this morning on this poor service. My signed letter and docs were useless. Maybe that was just the officer's point of view that she needed a confirmation via phone.

So next time when you instruct a bank to do the transfer while you are out of town, ensure this is loop hole is covered, especially if this transfer is for important payments.

Hi Guys,

Appreciate some help on this question.

For joint FD or joint saving account with 2 names and with condition that either 1 can withdraw the money. However, if one of the account holder pass away unexpectedly, would the account be frozen until a court order is release, or can the other account holder still be able to withdraw or close the account after the other account holder passed away?

Thanks.

Sharing some points from my recent event.

If the deceased did not have a will, then you need to get an administrator (with docs like death certificate, property/asset docs, family agreement to appoint this administrator etc). Check with govt dept on how to do this.

Once the administrator is approved, then he/she can process the assets etc.

Thanks. But getting the legal process and documents sorted out might take at least 6 to 12 months if there's a will. No will take even longer.

So I guess the best thing is still better to withdraw when both account holders are still alive.

AA
Even with administrator, it is weeks (maybe in Sarawak it is faster?)

BB
If both are still OK, then to avoid headaches later, might as well withdraw now. I did not know this is the case here.

I think he meant a limit of 10K via internet.

Don't think there is a limit if you do that at the counter.

I know I should ask the bank tomorrow but just eager to know now.

Is it possible to auto transfer my Maybank FD $ to my MB saving account on FD maturing?

Thanks.

I will be out of country when my FD with BR matures next week, is there anyway to sign the uplift instructions beforehand so that they can IBG the money to other bank? Anyone with prior experience?
*
I have done that. See my thread earlier.

You need to write a letter instructing them to transfer the money to an acc at another bank, provide all the details.

For me they did not do it on that day as the officer wanted to confirm my instruction by calling me and I was not on the phone then.

On my return, I had a chat with the manager, complaining what was the use of my signed letter when they still need to a verbal confirmation.

Good luck with yours.

Thanks.

I assume that later if one wants to log in using a PC without the finger scanner, it is still possible with the password, right? Problem here is after not using the password for so long, one may forget it as one has been using the finger scanning.

On the hacking, surprised to know that it can be done rather easily without additional software or hardware.

Doing some checking this weekend and noted that some of my FDs are missing. How do I know? I have a spreadsheet with the amount and due date. Cannot find the paper copies of the FD.

From your experience, what can I do with the missing FDs? Police report and then the bank?

Thanks.

Call bank whether the amount of FD is missing or not. If not, tell bank to reissue. If yes, make police report.

QUOTE(magika @ Mar 2 2014, 11:34 AM)
No need police report yet. Go to bank and ask them to list out all your FD. Replace those cert that is missing , some banks charge a nominal penalty of course.

Sometime when using spreadsheet, we forgot to update it.
*
Thanks!

Did not know that they can re-issue without a police report. Hope so, make my life easier that way. Will find out the bank's FD first and then cross check with my list.

For the FD group, please count me in.

PIDM or no PIDM, it is not an issue for me.

For me, main point is the higher rate, at least 0.2% higher than the respective national highest % (PIDM or non PIDM banks).
