KUALA LUMPUR: The bodies of a Japanese couple were found in the bathroom of their apartment in Mont Kiara here.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the housekeeper found the bodies of the married couple, aged 38, at around 10am on the 13th floor apartment unit.

"We believe the husband was electrocuted while taking a shower.

"His wife heard the noise in the bathroom and came to his aid but was also electrocuted," he said when contacted on Monday.

The body of the man was in the nude while the woman was fully clothed.

It is believed the water heater unit short-circuited leading to the electrocution.

SAC Ku said the case has been classified as sudden death.

"The bodies have been sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post mortem," he said adding that police would be taking the statement of the housekeeper soon.

Suspected unit is Mont Kiara Bayu lol... most of the units are being occupied by Japanese currently. (Sorry no offense to those who live inside there, just guessing and sampat here)

I'm now looking for a Mont Kiara unit for own stay too.. so now I might need to consider another place to buy.. At least the unit without centralized water heater ...

A series of unfortunate events have hit Mont Kiara Bayu over the years. One of them is a dead body was found in a refrigerator at auction unit on the 19th floor. It was found by the new owner of the unit while he was cleaning the unit. Even though everything should have been cleared and settled by now, there is still sentiment by the locals about the condominium and absolutely the unit. Due to the case, the unit was set back for auction property. There was also report saying that the whole units on the floor are unoccupied due to the case.

Furthermore very recently, there has been a case where the son of Federal Commercial Crimes director Comm Datuk Koh Hong Sun died in a fire at their family home at Mont Kiara Bayu. The whole event has been caught live in a video cam, where a man shouting frantically for help from the balcony of the 32nd-floor condominium unit.

I have gone for servicing to many of the apartments/condos in mont kiara and i really gotta admit, their electrical components and equipments are shit. All use the most shittiest quality which is even worse than china one. All damn cheap cheap one. Wiring also like shit, protection wise, well there's none. I have highlighted about this to many unit owners, but they took action or not i dont know lah. Mont kiara is definitely not for human live one. But the most hottest chicks in kl is in mont kiara, thats for god damn sure. All kind of races with all kind of clothes u can see when u go to their place and they dont bother to change either. Guys, I guess the water heater brand is not a big issue... Because I know how to install it myself, without asking technician to do it. Actually it is very simple, and not dangerous as what you think.

The most easiest yet important part is, you have to make sure your Earth connector (green) is always right to connect to the logic board inside the water heater. If short circuit is happened, first, your fuse will break, the rest part of the leaked electricity will flow to Earth, hence to decrease the chance to get shock. (Correct me if I were wrong)

The problem here is, the victim get shocked is probably, the water heater is centralized, means it is hidden inside the rooftop, and the wire might be cut off by mouse or cockroaches.. when the water is leaked, then the person will get shocked without wearing rubber slippers..

So what I know is, most of the high end condos in Mont Kiara are providing centralized water heater, gas pipe and also air-conds(some).. When the condo gets old, the tenants might face these problems..

Anyway... just becareful.. 2 cents here smile.gif

Thanks for the clarification. But I find it odd that only the couple kena electrocuted. If centralised, should be the whole block kena, say if others were in the shower at that time?

I think the electrocution was caused by the failure of both the heater's ELCB and the fuse box's ELCB. That's why you must test both ELCBs, once in a while.

QUOTE(felixwcf @ Sep 9 2013, 02:47 PM)

I live in Mont Kiara Bayu and this is tragic news (puns are really out of place here). The couple apparently had a 6 month old child as well who will now grow up without parents.

It's hard to think that something that we all do everyday has killed two people.

I don't know any details, there is a sign in the lobby but it doesn't even say that it is electrocution - just that a couple were found dead in their apartment (floor 13A not 13) and that the bodies had been sent for a post mortem.

I only moved in 4 weeks ago, I'm not really sure what the different systems are. Our showers have a hot water tank in the ceiling that we don't have access to and before we shower we turn on the heater (a switch by the door) for about 5 minutes and then we have a warm shower. Is that a centralised unit or water heater? I don't know if our system would be the same as that couple's though?

Then it is proven is MONT KIARA BAYU (As I predicted in the very first post of this thread). I know the condo very well even I didn't stay at there.. I have a friend staying there, make few visits to the place as well planning to buy an unit at there for own stay too... It's a Sunrise project.. heard of windows glasses felt off in MK10, dead body in refridge in 19 level and fire in 32 level in this condo before..

4 types of water heater in Malaysia.

1) Instant heater (3kW). usually have ELCB to prevent short circuit. cheapest.

2) Drum Heaters. heating in one big 50-100 liters tank then turn off switch. Uses more power.

3) Solar heaters. Higher capital but long term low cost.

4) Centralized boilers. Usually for hotels.

Based on this case, most likely the Japanese couples used the 1st type. Cuz electric running non stop. Chances are they are either using one with a faulty ELCB. Usually if got electric flow thru, immediately cut off. If we know the brand, can check maa who is the maker of the heating element. Of course, maybe husbend using electric shaver or hairdryer, can also be possible.

For your house, since you say need to wait 5 minutes to heat up before use, you are using a drum heater system. A 50 liters tank of hot water is most likely inside your bathroom ceiling. That one heating like kettle, but thermostat limit the heating to 55-60 deg C only. For safety, ppl use this system by heating up first, then turn off switch before use.

Wow.. so its actually 14 floor... Centralised in the unit/ house... anyway do becareful and get technician to check the wiring in your unit... if the wiring to the heating element was in contact with the water, wouldn't that trip the fuse box? hmm.gif Yes very saddening to hear that they had a baby.

technically, if the current is high enough, it should not contribute to any sensor faster enough to translate into pain...

Just checked my ELCB for water heater. The heater light will go off once I press the ELCB button, guess that means it's working alright.

Tomorrow gotta check fuse ELCB also. Paranoid liao...guess bathing in cold water won't be a bad choice after all.

this water heater electrocution is no joke. No point making jokes, better i learn from it.

I read the news, quite a few have died. WOrse is one died, another follow suit- after trying to help. That's why we read brothers died, couple died.... sad.....

We all have it at home. Most of us have water heaters at home, the common types we use, Alpha, Panasonic, Joven, ELba etc etc, all also got ELBS.

But then i was wondering to myself. The shower head, hose all nonconductor..not made of metal , usually rubber or plastic. Even the box is plastic.

So, actually when people got electrocuted by water heater, from which part have they touched and got the eletrocution??

We know current leakage is the cause of eletrocution.

The question is from which part of the heater, the person got the leaky current?

Anybody knows? Electrical man anyone?
