Hello. For those interested in playing at Japan Club on Saturdays, we start at 3pm and end at 7 plus usually. The address is No 2, Jalan 1/86, Off Jalan Taman Seputeh. If you do not know where it is, you can always wait at Mid Valley Megamall and I could walk over and take you there. It is like a 5-10 minutes walk depending on how fast you walk. A good online server for Go would be Kiseido Go Server or commonly known as KGS. The web address is www.gokgs.com. Once you have registered there, feel free to drop by the Malaysian Room under National in Rooms List. Most Malaysian players are in that room. KGS is actually good for teaching as it has the best tools available for an online Go server. For more information or updates on the Malaysian Go scene, you can always visit us at www.weiqi.org.my. This is the official website for the Malaysian Weiqi Association. And for those interested in blogs about Go, do visit these blog by local Go players. idazuwaika.wordpress.com fallingstones.wordpress.com http://idazuwaika.net/me/ (Go blog in BM) (Re: yamyinhao) How do we post our games here?

Ishikura-sensei already went back to Japan last year. His tenure has finished and he is now enjoying his retirement. Nice to know that Hock Doong taught you before. You should come to JC more often. And the owner of the BM Go blog is Idazuwaika, not me. We already have a syllabus out for beginners up to 10k level. You can download them from the MWA website after you have registered, the BM Go blog or from HDoong's blog at fallingstones.wordpress.com. Work is currently being done to develop Module B which will cover single digit kyu (SDK) to shodan. Hopefully when it is out, you will already be at SDK strength. Coincidentally, we do have a player studying in MMU and one will be enrolling in UM this year. If you study at either universities, you could always hook up at JC to know them and then meet at your uni to play when both of you are free.

Re: yamyinhao Your sifu's blog is not only about Go. He talks about his other interests in life and his work also. Xinwen's blog is nice, but he is currently busy with his studies, so rarely updating it. Nothing is more boring than a blog that is rarely update. Re: RyozKidz Yes, I am pretty sure I can take you there. But I don't think many people will be around this Saturday due to Valentine's. So you could come on the 21st if you wish to see more people. I will be at JC this Sat though, so it is up to you. We do sell basic Go sets but I am not sure as to the pricing. You will need to talk to Mr. Tiong who is the president of the MWA and check with him. But the whole set should be cheaper than RM 100. It is good to know that you bought a book. Just out of curiosity, where did you get it? Go books in English are rare here and we usually buy through the Internet. If you know Mandarin and bought a Mandarin Go book, then I have to congratulate you as there is a wealth of Go books in Mandarin. Your progress will no doubt be much faster due to the number of excellent Mandarin Go books out there. If you are sure you want to go, let me know here and I will PM you my handphone number. We can then meet up at Mid Valley on a Saturday of your choosing. Hope to see you soon!

Re: RyozKidz You are welcome. The Go community is small in Malaysia so we do tend to help each other out when we can. The cheapest Go set is RM 30 I think but if you want a better board, it will be an extra RM 20 or so. It is definitely cheaper than RM 100. The difference between English and Mandarin Go books is that there are only a limited number of English Go books and they are extremely expensive if you buy them online. Mandarin Go books can be found in Popular or Kinokuniya and the selection is huge. Or you can 'tumpang' our Go members to buy Mandarin Go books when they go to China for competitions. If you are dedicated to improving yourself, you will find that there is no shortage of good books in Mandarin. I look forward to seeing you in the future! Re: yamyinhao Time for W invade center area or he will lose the game.

Re: RyozKidz
Welcome to KGS. Please remember to join Malaysia Room there. When you get to KL, do give us a call.
Re: moniqee
Japan Club (JC) is situated besides Mid Valley. It is a 5 to 10 minutes walk from there. If you want to know the full address, it is No 2, Jalan 1/86, Off Jalan Taman Seputeh, Taman Seputeh, 58000 Kuala Lumpur. You can buy the Go set from Mr. Tiong today if you can go there. If I may ask, which college do you study at?

For any lurking Dan level Go players out there, we will be having a Go training camp specifically for you. It is scheduled for March 14 and 15 and will be held somewhere in KL. The teacher will be Mr. Kang who is a professional 7-dan with the Singapore Weiqi Association. The camp will have lectures, practice games and reviews. So, for those of you who are interested, please do sign-up at the MWA forums.

Re: RyozKidz I am sorry but the camp this time is only for Dan level players. There will be another camp during the month of June which will be open to all levels of players. Re: yamyinhao The price is actually extremely cheap. Normal professionals charge about RM 1500 per day + travelling expenses. Mr Kang is doing this for nearly no charges. The camp will be a 2 day/1 night camp at an undisclosed location for now. So you will breath, eat and sleep Go for 2 days. Re: Azureseiliu Nice to know that you are interested. If you need some pointers on how to play this game, please visit http://playgo.to/interactive/ This is an excellent website that teaches the basics of Go. If you are looking for an online server to play on, www.gokgs.com is one of the best. Alternatively, if you stay in the Klang Valley area, feel free to drop by Japan Club which is a 5-10 mins walk from Mid Valley Megamall on Saturdays 3-7 pm. Re: joeylny The game of Go is a little different from the game that you mentioned. Scoring methods and capturing methods are both different. If you want to play the real thing, visit the website above which teaches the basics of Go and look for an online server to play on. Buying Go sets online is not recommended this early on as the prices start from RM 2000 including shipping. You might want to buy beginner Go sets first from Mr Tiong as they are very much cheaper.

Re: yamyinhao There will be another longer camp in June for all levels of strength. This particular camp was originally planned to improve Malaysia's current crop of strong players to prepare for upcoming international tournaments. We kyus have an easier time improving when compared to the dan level players. You could also look at it as a challenge to improve yourself faster.

Re: RyozKidz
If you can come to KL for the Go Training Camp, then you can buy it then. If not, I will try to talk to Mr Tiong and see when he will be passing Kuantan on his business trips and see whether we can arrange something.

Re: RyozKidz
I didn't get your pm.
Re: xiaohong
JC stands for Japan Club and it is the place where the KL weiqi players meet every Saturday. You can get the address from previous posts in this thread and also the price for the goban. Previous threads also has links to websites that teach the basics too. Just spend a little time reading through it.

Yes, I did go. I seem to have a lot of luck when it comes to Go Seigen recently, met him, found his book, read an article about him. Fate at work it seems.

I stand corrected. I have a book on his games, not written by him. It's in English.
