QUOTE(sHawTY @ Oct 13 2006, 08:12 PM) Socket 754, it's kinda hard to seek for this socket aftermarket heatsink... Tried googling to no avail But i'm sure there is... What about G-Power Pro? Or why don't u google up into those aftermarket heatsink producer websites and look for a heatsink that can be fitted in that socket... c'mon... i'm sure someone here uses socket 754.... no one? |

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Oct 17 2006, 06:06 PM) Hey guys, I'm back again...In the end, I bought a G-Power BL for my socket 754 Athlon 64... I have no idea how did I get persuaded by the shop guy for me to buy this model... oh well... current idle temp is 41~42 degrees celcius.. which shaved off about 8 degrees before this... wonder how well it wil perform on gaming.. we'll see |

Guys.. I have a question, I am damn new at this heatsink installation thingy... I have already installed the g-power bl, and I used the thermal paste that came with it.
I was just wondering, the way I paste the thermal paste will affect the amount of cooling? Or perhaps not? This post has been edited by J-Slade: Oct 17 2006, 09:17 PM |

QUOTE(baok @ Oct 17 2006, 09:34 PM) erm.. it depends.. wether you put too much or too little.. but in my personal experience, this wont effect the temp very much.. maybe just about 1-2C only.. i've even try to use my XP-90C with very-very-very little AS5 on my A64 and my rig just running fine.. K thanks... I feel much more relieved now. |

Okay, a lil bit out of topic.
Arctic Silver 5 VS Cap Ayam thermal paste Will it make much difference? Okay... arctic silver 5 cost around RM24+ for the 3gram one.. then cap ayam can be RM9... but somehow, I believe thermal paste pricing speaks more than just brand.... anyone care to share their experience between non branded and branded thermal paste? Is there much difference in the cooling effect? Come share! share! This post has been edited by J-Slade: Oct 19 2006, 12:32 AM |

Seems like sHawTY is the active big bro in this thread.. haha.. kay I'm here to learn a lil more.
Now my casing at the back, I installed a 80mm casing fan. So just curious, if I added the slightly bigger one (which is 90mm or 93mm? I cant remember) will it improve my casing's air cooling? |

QUOTE(vey99 @ Oct 19 2006, 08:44 PM) Don't say blue orb, my golden orb screw mount also broke after *some* handling, crappy stuff. Scary man... when u see on the website, the blue orb looks pretty normal size. When u go to lowyat and see it urself.. sure faint... its abt 850gram + almost 1 kg @_@Dont forget blue orb is 120mm diameter, some casing wont fit (HSF block by PSU) QUOTE(csechuan @ Oct 19 2006, 10:01 PM) erm i wish to clear my problem 1st b4 updating mine I think the right way is to just paste a small blob in the middle then press it with the heatsink and dont touch it edi. It will spread evenly by itself... also I just learnt that thermal paste brand also will affect the cooling effect. I'm gonna get an Arctic Silver 5 soon!!! wheee~im using scythe infinity running e6300 at 3.01ghz idle 47 load 62 i noe something wrong...i evenly apply the thermal paste which is given in the box 1...any1 help? |

Kay.. I just took out my G-Power BL, cleaned it up and used Arctic Silver 5 this time... and with a proper way of spreading a thin layer on top instead of putting one blob in the middle and press with the heatsink...
I managed to get a stable 41 degrees celcius now instead of the thing going up to 44~46 with the cap ayam thermal paste. hmmm... save off about 5degrees celcius... ok ok only la... considering I paid damn a lot to buy a 12gram arctic silver 5 |

Hmmm so kay, here's the deal, I'm using an AMD Athlon 64 (socket 754) with a G-Power BL heatsink on it... currently not doing anything and its idling at 42degrees... is that normal? Anyone with an athlon 64 wanna share their current temp? *edit* oops.. I didnt realise the first post has a list of that Man... everyone seems to be getting really good idle temperates of <40 Any idea how can I achieve that? Sifu's pls teach me...~! QUOTE(sHawTY @ Dec 19 2006, 12:25 AM) You've misunderstood what J-Slade says... Yesh... I can vouch for that! G-Power cooling is really good. The one I got last time was G-Power BL which was without the fan speed controller and with slower fan (max 2000rpm) but everything else the same... really good cooling due to the 4 heatpipes and many fins on the heatsink itself. What he says is, ALLIT rip you about the price, not about the performance of the heatsink... That G-Power Pro performs better than that Fatal1ty heatsink... Trust me, don't fall for those Fatal1ty heatsink looks, they just look nice, but in performance, there's many heatsinks that can beat em... The only setback is the bright blue LED which is kinda turn off for me... when I switch off my lights, my PC would be glowing brightly in blue... |

@ sHawTY
Yo... previously my records were J-Slade ~ Athlon64 3000+ @ 2GHz ~ Gigabyte G-Power BL ~ Idle 41°C, Load 49°C I sold off my G-Power BL already Now using Thermalright XP-90 J-Slade ~ Athlon64 3000+ (s754) @ 2.01GHz ~ Thermalright XP-90 + Nidec TA350D 92mm fan ~ Idle 40°C, Load 48°C Not much difference huh? Anyway I sold off my G-Power cos I couldn't stand the bright blue LED >< I guess for socket 754 Athlon processors, the heat problem cannot be ever solved (unless water cooling la |

QUOTE(vassalle @ Dec 23 2006, 06:26 PM) Few things can factor in though.. Any idea if Arctic Silver 5 will ever harden after a very long time? I have changed many heatsinks but it seems that everytime I take it out, the thermal paste is just as how it was when I first applied it... but then again, I didn't leave it on for very long.Airconditioned or not? what type of case u use? what TIM did you use? AS5 needs like 200 hours to sink in.. |

QUOTE(lolhalol @ Dec 25 2006, 02:49 PM) no wrong... tims should not harden . if harden pls change. its job is to be smi fluid so that it can fill up gaps. if it s hard then how to do its job. I think this makes more sense..Hmmm but I guess a branded TIM like Arctic Silver 5 shouldn't harden over time right? Btw, anyone here used a peltier with their air cooled heatsink before? Whats the results? Got much improvement over the cooling? |
