I'm not sure if i have come to the right thread or not, but I have something that worries me at the moment.

Looking at LYN and round KL, I came to a few air cooler that might post a problem:
9700 LED/NT
Thermalright 120X

The question that bugged me is that as I'm using gigabyte gigabyte GA-965P-DS3, would the crazy cool be an issue with the backplate for the two AC above?

Read around, and I'm even more confuse, as some says that the crazy cool can be removed, while others say that it cant be removed. There are even places that says that it can only be removed if the heatsink/heatpipe for both the northbridge and southbridge is removed as well.

Please advice

the crazy cool that u talking about only have with DQ6 version only not with DS3
so should be no problem for u to buy it. tongue.gif

highly recommend u buy thermalright 120 n if u wan to get at cheap n new u can ask Hwoarang45 since he do bulk of the stuff

I PM him past few day for a few clarification, but he hasnt reply to me yet. I think my PM is on a noobie type to him (as his post mention that noobie/rude pm will be ignored biggrin.gif)

Plus, I went LYN and all 120 & 120X sold out. LOL

Now head hurts , think too much. tongue.gif ... blur liao...

EDIT:
Head hurts too much... instead of continue-ing to think, i think i'll just go and grab a 9700. It is one of the few good air-cooler, with my only concern being the fan's ball-bering dies on me. biggrin.gif.

Going for newbie/moderate OC (first time), i think i can skip 120extreme at this time, and grab it once i'm more exp on OC-ing biggrin.gif

@Dovienya
what your pc spec? Ultra120X seem extreme if u only use a P4 or  non-overclocked rig. try contact him via message board cuz he might be busy

Weak PC tongue.gif.

C2D 4300
gigabyte GA-965P-DS3,
4GB Corsair value DD2-667 Ram, [ (most pride item) but using 32-bit Vista tongue.gif ]
6800gs (none-overclock, due to heat in casing) - wanting to mod the casing tongue.gif

rest is standard. onboard sound-card, old 160gb sata-1 harddisk etc etc.

edit: my most pride item is the 4gb ram and not the mobo tongue.gif

yes yes still it cant beat AS5 and ARTIC MX rite?i guess maybe either he put too much or too lil and his casing airflow is rather bad.
*
at the moment, i tried with open casing. Two time, 1st time follow the instruction. 2nd time follow internet instruction

now donno too much or too little... but heat is worst that before.. think need to bring it back to lyn and ask ppl to re-install for me

I follow the instruction on the manual.

for the screw-part, i screw until i need to apply pressure, then i tighten it a few time.

for the thermal paste, i'm using those provided with the 9700. and i apply it based on what the manual says. I've tried to apply a grain-size on the top of the cpu, then use the hst to spead it, but the temp is worst that it is now.

i've change the hst pointing location and re-apply the thermal paste. Now the temp is idle-ing bout 49-50.

what weird is that core-temp register 46-49 ; tat register 49-52 ; and speedfan register 36-39 ...

donno what's wrong now...

where u check ur temperature inside bios or other

from my opinion u not put the cooler properly lar laugh.gif

tat temp lar... but nevermind, found my answer liao.

From what it was said, certain C2D CPU (like my 4300), the temp from TAT and CoreTemp will register higher because they compute directly from T-Junction. One way to check is to open CoreTemp and if my T-J is 100'C, then my temp is taken from T-J instead of T-Case
Most ppl who hit the same problem as me just -minus 10~15'C off.

T-Junction = CPU's junction between core. (hottest part of the CPU)
T-Case = the part on CPU most ppl measure, especially when they're doing OC.

For me, T-J = underneath the CPU cover, and T-C outside the CPU Cover. brows.gif

Sry for the confusion .. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Edit:

Check out these two forum I've read.
AnandTech - High temps when overclocking with core temp
Core 2 Duo temps - been doing some research, does this sound right ...
