If you have a DSLR with HDMI output, you could get a HDMI capture card and use it as a webcam.

Easier solution, get a hd webcam from logitech or etc, DSLR cmos sensor will easily heat up, hence not suitable for long time video usage....webcam pretty cheap nowadays

I used DSLR shoot corporate video under hot sunlight over 30 minutes - 1 hour also didn't face sensor overheat.
I saw LCD overheat signal though but no issues. |

Am I missing something? It's like asking whether we can use 10 ringgit bills to use as toilet paper! Sorry but that was the first thing that popped into my mind (actually, it was 100 ringgit bills)
Webcams are cheap and available everywhere. Why DSLR? |

Sometimes we need high quality stream for official live cast. Why do it? Because we can.
To the TS, you will need a HDMI input card and a really good Internet speed. I never had a dslr shut down due to overheat before. I use them for over 30 minutes recording before. |

Not HD enough? https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1217382/all Because you can't control the exposure manually with that Because the sensor/dynamic range isn't as wide Because optically, it's just not as good Head to 3 minute 45 second for how they do a live stream. Compare their live stream quality with your regular webcam stream. This post has been edited by LegendLee: Sep 17 2013, 06:06 PM |

QUOTE(kmarc @ Sep 17 2013, 07:42 PM) If it's just for skype to say Hi to someone, a regular webcam will do.But if it's for a live stream/cast with a large enough audience, I don't see what's wrong with better quality video. If you still can't accept it. How about this, some people would spend top dollars on getting something relatively worthless to you. From computers, audio equipments, cameras, cars, bicycles, food, clothes.... etc etc Sure better quality video may be worthless to you, but if they've the cash... why not? That being said, there's a market for this(high quality live-stream solutions) so the demand is there. This post has been edited by LegendLee: Sep 17 2013, 08:32 PM |

people who got the cash won't look at DSLR.
what you posted are all just conditions where HD / details are good to have, that one we all know. you just don't seem to see what kmarc is pointing, that TS is obviously not doing something like that unless TS actually says so. |

We don't know for sure how much cash or how willing TS is going to spend or what he wants to use it for.
TS ask if it's possible, I just provide the means to an end. I posted a method on how to get a good live-view/stream via http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity/ It's in the video I posted. Which answers TS question far better than any replies on this thread. |

LOL wow you sure look at your reply very highly.
tell you what - post #3 actually answered it already, answered more than a week ahead of you too. in fact, you didn't provide anything until much later after having some debate with kmarc. |

Although a bit late, nothing wrong was mentioned. I don't see any problem with my reply. Certainly much better than the replies saying it's a horrible idea which will badly damage the camera. The camera at most will just switch off. Many people have been using dslr for live streams. The replies here are as if it will screw the camera up for good. |

the problem here is that you're putting everyone else down for their posts.

QUOTE(LegendLee @ Sep 18 2013, 02:25 AM) Certainly much better than the replies saying it's a horrible idea which will badly damage the camera. as a community, we do not stop people from contributing ideas, suggestion, or expression of opinion. those who said it was a risk and all were ignorant, hence you saw my replies. we just help clarify the matter. |
