I'll be the next to jump ship. This will be my last HTC phone ever. They're banned from my family forever.

We have had HTC phones off and on. No brand loyalty in my family. We have Apples and Nokias and Samsungs too. But moving forward HTC will be off the table together with Sony phones.

@Jason who do you file the case against? HTC Malaysia, SiS, Brightstar... Or???

My theory is that the red channel jacked up too high, waaay past the point noise becomes signal. Lets see what the update brings.

The HTC one doesn't have weird cutouts. All you have to do is buy a privacy screen that is square, and larger in size, and then cut it down to size. A laptop privacy screen would work.

No, please don't buy this phone. Looks good on the outside, but sucks on the inside. Specs look good on paper, but honestly, if you ever so much as use the camera, this phone sucks. Sucks horribly.

No, not really. Almost all phones on the market now perform reasonably well. Its just like the FPS wars in the late 90's and early noughties.

When you put the name as King Kong Ng, it will show up as First Name King, Middle Name Kong and Family Name Ng. On whatsapp it will display as King Ng... without middle name. You have to edit your contact on google contacts so that the First name is King Kong, and then leave the middle name blank. Else, just use a dash like Taiwanese or Hongkies and put King-Kong Ng.

On Google Contacts, all Given, Middle and Family names will come out in that order. On Whatsapp only given name and family name. Middle name gets omitted. Then on Whatsapp, you need to give your contact list a refresh. At least it works for me.

Its not a hardware "failure" but it is a hardware issue. CMOS sensors all behave the same way. The DSP and software is supposed to take care of it.

Customs guideline is to release anything below RM 500 under personal use category. If you buy only one item generally its OK even if costs more than RM 500. Just don't buy ten and don't buy every week cos then your name and address will red flag

Switch repaired my family's iphone and macbook in 3 days. iphone had faulty home button and macbook had a dead mainboard. Repaired in warranty. No questions asked. Zero cost. And they have local service centers in major cities. And not so major ones as well.


Samsung repaired my S3 in warranty in less than 24 hours. Died due to insane chip eMMC issue. They have service centers in every state. Again, zero questions asked. Zero cost. Just one day of wait

HTC has two service centers in KL only. Takes a week to send there. Takes weeks do do a half assed job. Takes another week to send back. Then the issue comes back. HTC does not admit to the problem. Techs are clueless. CS agent on phone is clueless. Countless horror stories on this thread. And previous versions. And on xdadev.

You'd seriously think we'd buy another HTC product?

Firstly, it is aluminosilicate glass, not plastic. Its hard, but also brittle. Its very thin, less than 1mm as used on phones. Its scratch resistance does not come from the glass itself but a hard teflon like coating (nobody except Corning knows what it is) but I wont be surprised if it is a nitride based material.

Its hardness was tested to be between 7-8 on the Moh's hardness scale compared to an acclaimed 9. That means things like sand (silicon dioxide, 8-8.5), aluminium oxides like ruby and sapphires (8.5-9.5), vanadium steel(8-9), silicon carbide (9.5), hardened carbon steel (8.5-9.5 depending on carbon content) and many other things can and does scratch it.

Its scratch resistant towards most keys made of copper or brass (<5), normal steel knives, cutters (5) and other softer materials.
