nope.... both navigation and notification are not transparent.

try Google Experience Launcher. you'll get the transparent effect, plus the "Ok, google" from home screen is kinda cool. give it a try.

You have to enter fast boot and sideload KK image file

After using Lolli for around 1 week, i would say, i'm pretty satisfied with it.
Some occasional stuttering here and there, but overall i'm ok with it.
Batt life seems to be about the same as KK

Idle standby for 12hours is around 3-4% drop

Thanks for the reply.

I am thinking of performing a factory reset. Any idea whether that would help in reducing the lags?

Also, is USB OTG supported on Lollipop? Can seem to detect my USB flash drive connected thru OTG cable anymore since the update and not much info online.

root Problem with the lagginess is with the type of NAND used in the Nexus. there's no way around it, except to flash to F2FS
*
any idea how is this done? do i need to root my unit 1st?

Done f2fs reformat on my N7 2012 3G. Seems to be safer than Lollipop for the time being . So far so good, smoother and stable.
You need the latest TWRP which can do f2fs reformatting.
A suitable f2fs rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2791580
You must know how to fastboot and adb your device.
That's all - enjoy!

rclxub.gif Confused..

Does this means i'll need to root my lollipop N7, revert back to KK, install TWRP, perform F2FS reformatting, then only update back to Lollipop?

Please advise icon_question.gif
What is the most straight forward and safest way to perform all these?

Also, what apps are you guys using to connect to USB flash drives via OTG cable? Really need this function to perform my backups before trying the F2FS format.

Root device first.
Then read the xda link provided, read the forum, follow the instructions.
This will bring your device to f2fs 4.4.4 KK supposedly faster, smoother and more stable than existing.
Lollipop is still in its infancy dodged with many bugs very much reported everywhere. My advice is to stay off for the time being whereas f2fs KK has many good reviews.
Advice: Install f2fs KK first after flashing TWRP ( I used ver 2.8) before you format the data partition. You don't need to format system (rom) as its already in f2fs format. If you do so you will not be able to boot your device until you find a way to reinstall it again which is difficult.
Again you need to know how to flash TWRP after rooting. Better get a friend to help if you are totally new to custom rom flashing.

Can backup your files on your pc first before the exercise.

Noted. Thanks for the advice.

i almost forgot the option to backup my files via PC cable connection. Reason being, the last time i tired, the my Win XP PC could not detect the N7 even after trying with different drivers from the net.

in the end, i always transferred my files using the USB method until the recent Lollipop update.

Anyway thanks for the help.

Hi guys,

Still on the F2FS topic.

I've read from forums that the F2FS formatting can be done via TWRP. Planning to give it a try later.

one thing tho, once this is formatted, am i only stuck to customs roms suited to F2FS only.

Also, i noticed the term: All-f2fs and some just f2fs. Any difference?

And finally, should i do anything with kernal? or leave it as is?

cheers!

1) Yup, you're stucked with F2FS-compatible rom only, until you format back to EXT4 (though I doubt you will because once you go F2FS, you'll never go back to anything else laugh.gif)

2) Like the name suggest, All-F2FS means all your partition is on F2FS (system, data, cache). You can also configure which partition you want to convert to F2FS. So the flexibility is there.

3) Read the OP of the rom's thread first. If the rom maker stated that its rom is F2FS-compatible, then you're fine. If else, find an F2FS-compatible custom kernel to compliment the rom you chose. M-Kernel IMO is a top choice.

Good luck thumbup.gif

thanks for the feedback.

All good with lollipop rom i got from xda.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/de...nt/rom-t2931064

although compared to stock the idling battery drops significantly compared to stock. read on forums that kernals would help on battery, so thinking of flashing kernal now.

a few questions before i proceed:
1. does M-Kernal supports Lollipop? not much info online.
2. also, any comments on Phantom Kernal?

Yup, much improved performance. Opening apps feel a little bit faster. Overall operation is smoother so far.

just rooted my N7 to run lollipop f2fs.

is it worth going for the 5.0.2? also, do i need to un-root to apply this factory image?

Hi guys,
Lately my N7 2012 has been giving me ridiculous charging time estimates , e.g. 3 DAYS until full.

Does this means the battery is dead? Any way to change or repair this?

My unit is running lollipop custom ROM.

BTW, i see there is a marshmallow ASOP rom on xda, anyone tried it on 2012 yet?

Hi,

Could be issue with USB contact point. I had the issue where while plugged in, the battery was still draining. Slightly different issue from yours though but may be same problem.

I'd suggest you try installing Battery Monitor widget to diagnose.

Thanks for the suggestions.

How much would it cost to change the USB port if it is found to be faulty? Any recommended seller?

besides the battery being the problem, the old Nexus 7 usb port might also be the culprit.
i suspected mine being this case, but haven't had the time to replace that.

same case, the charging is really slow until you some how find a sweet spot to connect the usb connector, that's how i come to the conclusion that the usb connector is bad.

that's worth a try.
How is the 7.1.2 ROM so far? Good battery life?
