You can either buy synology / qnap put in hdd and good to go or build your own with that budget.

I own a qnap 469, N54L (Win server 2008 R2), N36L (Xpenology) and latest Gen8 Microserver (Win Server 2012) in my office and house.

My future project is build a intel H87 with Xpenology and retire my N36L smile.gif

You can use your Synology DSM File Station, mount the remote folder from your Qnap.
Then copy directly from Synology to QNAP without using PC.

If you are on 1Gb LAN, then the speed will be much faster too.

Low Yat HP store still have plenty stock for N54L and also the Gen8 microserver. Price is around 800 for N54L and 1500 for Gen8
