QUOTE(wildwestgoh @ Sep 27 2014, 10:07 PM) Just setup as SMB share and every single OS in the world can access. Which File system to invest in?Almost every OS (iOS and Android included) can access SMB with a little help from apps, so no worries about the way it's shared. I am thinking of building a 3 bay NAS (if there's such system). Cost is a problem to me now. Thinking to start with 2 HDD running raid-1 ( currently I have only roughly 600GB of data that need to be backup). I am worry about speed of NAS as I would be putting my photos on it, during editing I think it would be rather slow since theoretically gigabit connection would be quite limiting compare to a local drive? |

QUOTE(blacktubi @ Sep 29 2014, 01:19 PM) I got a Synology NAS and never regret it, it is so simple to use and setup is quick. Can I know which model of Synology NAS you have gotten for yourself?Their support is awesome and can even remote to your NAS to perform emergency repair if ever required You can get a NAS with dual LAN if you want. https://www.synology.com/en-global/products...rformance#4_bay |

QUOTE(blacktubi @ Sep 29 2014, 04:35 PM) I am using the DS214 now which is great. Thanks, I am much inclined towards DS either 2 or 4 bays with a +It doesn't matter the filesystem since you access it through SMB or Windows File Service. Dual LAN seems great, I like the option to have a direct E-sata to my computer (not sure if that would actually be faster). Any idea what can I do with those USB ports? can I plugin printer to be share over network as well? The more I read, i realise it is a more than enough capable device it is |

Hmm.. do you guys suggest to use NAS to store photo that you intend to edit with lightroom? Would the preview be very slow (it's already damn slow now in my local drive)
Found my own answer, for your reading if you interested: http://www.duncanfawkes.com/using-lightroom-nas/ http://www.computer-darkroom.com/blog/will...om-performance/ http://www.keptlight.com/lightroom-storage/ This post has been edited by Sky.Live: Oct 7 2014, 11:57 AM |

If you buy a NAS with LAG support, eg: DS415+ or DS713+ you will need a LAG enable switch as well right?
I think most of the consumer switches or router doesn't support it |
