Just got my DLINK 320L yesterday, with a new unit of 2TB HDD.
My old USB box storage box with 4 HDD seems to be failing...which is why i moved out one of the HDD+ the new HDD into the NAS.

Initial tests:
1) 2 HDD setup as RAID 1.
2) Transferring from my PC to NAS seems rather slow over Gigabit Network...about 20Mbps/s ++....after a while even less.
3) Playing from my Minix NEO X7, streaming big HD files will have a bit of lag occasionally. I noticed again, the throughput is not fast enough..only 20Mbps/s or less....if i stream from PC (with the USB 3.0 box attached), can goes up to 20MB/s-40 MB/s with no lag...sometimes, even hits 90Mbps/s!!!

arrghh...quite dissapointed by this NAS. Should have bought a new USB 3.0 box instead. Now maybe only use it as backup with mirroring.

Got one question...if the NAS dies, will i be able to read the HDD data? Previously i have tested RAID-1 on my PC...even if the RAID is gone, i can still read the data from the individual RAID-1 disk if i hook it back with out the RAID config.

That is amazingly fast!!! Looks like local copy via USB 3.0!!!! I can barely hit 12MB/s when copying over to my DLiknk 320L....

That day i was at Jayacom...there is this dunno Netgear model...4 bay RM 8xx or RM9xx, slightly under RM1k.

Dunno if it's slow like turtle also....forgot model..

RM690 kinda expensive ....Dlink-327 seems like more worthwhile buy...

btw, when you mentioned DIY, do you mean using old PC for NAS?? kinda clunky and big...not too mention power sucking.....not ideal...

I don't have any C2D or any PC lying around for that matter...but it is still too bulky. I live in small apartment...dun wanna have another PC box lying around.

I just built an M-ITX rig with an ASROCK mobo for my sis-in-law...quiet big even for M-ITX casing...anyway, it cost RM2K++, so definitely out of my NAS budget to build a new PC just for this.

Bought a new Dns-327L...much better writing speed...around 60MB/s....unfortunately, streaming HD from this device is still a no-no...video will halt momentary every now and then just like the DNS-320l. I don't think it's a bandwidth or read speed not fast enough issue.

If i share a folder from the NAS and stream from my PC using TVERSITY, then there is no issue and can play smoothyly...
This will even use up more bandwidth with data transfer from NAS->PC--->Android Box, yet it does better.

My conclusion: Forget about NAS streaming HD movies....they don't have the processing power to do it or the streaming application sucks.... Haiz...Maybe those high-end NAS will do better.

Don't think have this feature...i have used a higher end Thecus N4200 in the office, that has this feature.

I believe it's the processing power or buffering not enough...no such issue when using pc to stream pointing to the same NAS as mentioned above...

You so lansi for what? I am just sharing info here. It's not like i know the performance of this thing until i actually use it. So you have one that works for you, great. If you don't have knowledge about other models. STFU. It just show your stupidity by assuming all NAS has same performance.

To other people interested in sharing info(not just to show off how powderful and expensive his NAS is or being perasan....):

Some further testing on the 327L reveals:
1) The previous problem with the HD video streaming from NAS-->Android box seems to be resolved with using a different app (ES File Explorer) by just reading directly from the folder...i am not sure how's the protocol in this works, maybe it bypass the UPNP thing. Now it is as good as streaming from my PC using TVERSITY. Previously, i was using SKIFTA as client to stream from the NAS.
2) Another thing i discovered, the file previously having problem streaming directly from NAS has a DTS-ES soundtrack...for some reason, streaming from the DLINK UPNP can't passthrough this soundtrack. I tried another file with only DTS and it seems fine.

Solution:
1) Use PC to stream using TVERSITY for all movies will work 100% (but means PC needs to turn on).
2) Stream directly to Android Box using ES Explorer (add the path to the network) and play directly as shared file using MX Player.

Possible cause:
Probably UPNP in the DLINK not enough processing power or can't handle some soundtrack format.

Usually i use Skifta, that doesn't have SMB. Yes, definitely on Gigabit LAN. Will try to test the skip/pause thing later tonight.

For comparison between 320L and 327L, the UI in 327L is a lot faster and responsive btw...well at least some of money got it's value back...

I think it has nothing to do with Rasberry pi or XBMC. The DLINK works better with NFS protocol i think. When i use ES EXPLORER to access the file, maybe it's NFS protocol in the works? (not sure) Hence the much improvement. My files over 10GB.

Hmm...this BlackArmor thingy, never see in shops....is it not available anymore?

If you are going with RAID 5, I would suggeat you back up your precious photos and videos elsewhere. If the NAS die...all your data in HDD bye bye...if Raid 1, you still can pull it out and use as standalone disk elsewhere.

Is it? Never tried before. But you need to connect all 4 HHD to recover and rebuld the RAID? Still, it's dangerous, don't want to take suh risks with my precious data. If downloaded movies never mind...don't even bother to RAID...just dump all in a USB Box only. Can always download back...

15MB/s...i think about same rate with the 320L....best can go up to 20MB/s i think.

2 MB/s...thumbdrive also faster wei... ..Have you tried using a PC, point to both NAS and copy or just a backup application to copy instead? Can be much faster.

What software do you use for the recovery?

Yeah, under certain condition the 320L can read up to 60MB/s...i think depends on file size...smaller files/bigger files will affect the speed. I remember i can achieve 40MB/s to 60MB/s from the 320l when copying to my USB 3.0 box connected to my PC.
