When proton come out new models. All ask about ANCAP ratings... thumbup.gif Others brands no one bothers.  doh.gif

Proton advertises with the rating, cause they are proud of it (and they should be). Toyota is like... psssst... don't mention, don't let customers think about safety and look for a rating cause it's not good...

Inilah kata kata seorang warganegara Australia.....

For some delusional Malaysians, they worship it as 9th wonder of automotive world. Pity them, due to extortionate local car tax structure, Proton cars there become artificially cheaper while other cars made more expensive. Pathetic! That's why any smart Australians should avoid Proton at all cost!

IMO, it is the same everywhere. You get one stuff cheap, you get another thing expensive.

Here are stuff which is more expensive in Australia than in Malaysia. This is just from googling:

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2...lia-cost-living

http://www.news.com.au/money/cost-of-livin...v-1226630603809

Part of it is due to the Australian economy is very dependent on natural resources, and part of it is due to the strict food control. Cannot bring any stuff into Australia, they just throw it away at customs. That way Australia can maintain the high prices. Been there, so I know.

Yes, Malaysians pay a lot for cars, but we purchase it once every 5-10 years. We don't purchase McD once every 7 years. Labour is cheap.

I think it is more of give and take. Some things more expensive, some things less expensive.

Back to cars. Here is what happening to Australia cars ATM:
http://www.news.com.au/business/holden-bos...i-1226698663952

Sorry if Malaysians are being patriotic and willing to show support for national brand. If you don't do that, that Ford/Holden Australian future is something Malaysia will become. You cannot blindly put faith in a business, that goes with Proton as well. Actually improvements are coming at a time when people have deserted proton for Toyota, Honda etc. Proton waking up from slumber. If Honda, Toyota, Nissan continue with their current trend, they too will relinquish their market position to Kia/Hyundai. It also shows, Aussies don't care about Holden/Ford that much then. Maybe its the Aussie culture or maybe that is just pure capitalism. Or, Holden and Ford not really Aussie made products in the first place. Both come from US. So if they die also, no problem for Australia, except the factory workers/people directly involved in those brands. Also, AFAIK, no car company, local/overseas has closed shop in Malaysia yet. I may be wrong though.

So Top Gear Australia is not that smart using a SNR3, that goes to the thousands of Jumbuck owners. rolleyes.gif
It is easy to criticize others, but make sure you have points to back it up. Otherwise, someone will come and dismantle those points.

if by dollar to dollar, they pay much lesser than us for almost all of the thing.

example a waitress earn 10 dollar a hours and can get 2 big mac in Australia, and here you earn 5 dollar as a waitress and cant even enjoy a big mac.

Thank you for correcting me.

The cost of living is high there. Same like UK. 1 hour can already buy 2 big macs. But everything else is expensive.

In the uk, cars don't cost that much but their insurance is so extensive and will take into account every imaginable facet of your life like ur age, colour of your car, your job, where you park your car, your street address which in turn can spike the premiums.. Petrol is no cheap either and with congestion charges and all.. When I lived there, the then labour gov wanted to tax cars based on the amount of km's it travelled as ways to reduce carbon footprint. It can be summarised that the running cost of owning a car can only go northwards there

Hm. I disagree. Labour, and anything connected to labour is expensive. So going to a restaurant... prepare to spend at least RM 40 (cooking yourself is affordable though). Calling a contractor? Forget about it, fix your damn house yourself laugh.gif I was once quoted around RM 8000 for something to do on our house. I ended up ordering the parts online and installed it myself for around RM 1000? Fix your car yourself if possible, cause workshops will make you bleed (not the spare parts, just the labour). But products are affordable. Food ingredients, TVs, cars, computer parts, ... despite the high taxes they are quite affordable (perhaps due to everyone just ordering electronics etc. online... so lots of shops are competing with each other).

Dear all,
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but just pretend for a moment that all things being equal, and Proton is selling a C segment car as with every other vendor. And at most, Proton is only receiving a mere '30%' advantage from import duty (http://www.maa.org.my/info_duty.htm). And lets set a constant of 120k for most C sec car.

Proton * 1.3 = 120000
Proton = 92300

So technically, Proton has a leeway to jack it up to 92k and pack more stuff in and bring more destruction to their opponents. Since critics are always saying Proton got ridiculous advantage. But of course, all things being equal.

This calc is most probably...terribly wrong in more than 1 way. Please focus the bashing on the math and not the person, shouldnt be that hard right....right? happy.gif'
