Hi, i am planning to start riding foldies and i am considering between these :

1. Raleigh ugo, or

2. Mongoose foldie (http://www.mudah.my/Mongoose+lightweigh+folding+bike+-24432072.htm?last=1)

Appreciate your input. I am 90kg. Would my weight spoil this mongoose foldie's thin wheels?
*
saw this mongoose at hong lim cycle, price tag was about 1k if not mistaken. ask the uncle there what the frame was made of got simple answer - alloy.... blink.gif blink.gif

Hi all,
I'm interested to know why you own a folding bike? Lack of storage space? Cute to look at or be looked at? Fun to ride?
Some of you have plans to ride big distances or tackle big hills, so I'm curious why you would want a foldie? For the same price of a high end foldie, I can get a carbon framed racer that would eat distances and climb hills, so why a foldie?

For me, it is portability and practicality. Distances and hills, the foldie stays home.

What about you?
*
portability is my choice and it is easy to ride compared to mtb (my mtb lah).. long distance climb hill? no problem still will go with foldie.

foldie help me to cycle uphill easier than mtb.. previously struggling finish one loop relau-bukit jambul (via vistana)- relau with mtb but it was much more easier with foldie.

dono about you, but sometimes i do wish that my foldie comes with at least suspended fork. whenever we ride on the road sides or kerbs, they're literally strewn with plenty of rubbish and stones and the roads are uneven or cracked. damn i hate riding on that kind of surface.
*
haha then you should try foldie wit 451 rims (1 1/8 slick tyre)... brows.gif brows.gif

*
aiyaa why bother want to go fast? just ride at your pace have fun...
here was lots of time whereby group of roadie and foldie overtake me when i ride.. just smile at them, i'm in no rush icon_rolleyes.gif

You got the right attitude and that's just like me but you don't get to join a lot of group though. I have a riding kaki, we ride every week, sometimes twice  a week. Then one day, he broke his promise and was absent from a ride. He got angry when I showed my dislike by calling him Boeing and Airbus. Since then, we never ride together again and every member of the group joined him because they were fast riders! He have even bought road bikes! So, me and wife have to join another group. You can ride fast and you can ride slow, but most riders cannot tolerate slower riders unless you join the right group. Especially when you ride in Kesas which is considered a fast route, most riders want to ride fast! For slower rides, join the makan angin ride like what I do most of the time. BUT be prepared to spend the whole day.  tongue.gif
*
Thats why I'm a lone wolf most of the time. If got chance to join u guys i don't mind spending the whole day.

By the way, been thingking to get a gps for bike, now between garmin edge 200 and 500 anybody use rhese 2 before? Care to share experience.

I think you should skip 200 totally and go for at least the 500 but if you can afford, off course the 810 is the best!  thumbup.gif  A little big though but with map. If budget is a constraint, you can try the Bryton Rider 35. It's has the same function as the Garmin 500 but cheaper. The Bryton though is not up to par yet in terms of connectivity but it is improving. You can download your log  onto the manufacturer's site. Still the Garmin is better but I only need the Bryton as a kind of cyclometer, cadence and heart rate meter so it is not a matter to me and bonus is I get to see the route I have ridden on google map later.

edge 500 is the one then, 800 is over budget sweat.gif .

hi guys.

my first post in this thread (hopefully first of many!)

anyway, have been interested in getting a bike, but was put off as I stay in a condo with not much storage space...

but that was until i found out more about folding bikes, and how they can be just (or almost) as good as normal MTB and road bikes!

my main aims with getting a bike would be for visits to the gym/7-eleven (about 5km return), or riding around the park with my kids.. my condo is on top of a steep hill, so i guess i would be better off with a bike with more gears?

also, intend on getting a baby seat for my son to join me (< 2 yrs old).. anyone here have experience with baby seats on their foldies?

i stay in segambut dalam/mont kiara area.. so any good nearby bike shops? i know there's the rodalink in hartamas... but i dont mind driving a bit as long as the shop is well-stocked and has good advice/service.. reading here a lot go to MBS in bandar utama.. so i might give that a try...
*
there are many type of child seat, simple one or the high end from polisport .

i use the simple one cost less than 100 (sorry forgot the price), it was attached to the removable rack

Or u can try this,I use to carry my son around d taman which is almost 2 y'old already[attachmentid=3840936]
*
this another option rclxms.gif can be at the back or front..

QUOTE(ozzy79 @ Feb 5 2014, 04:50 PM)
thanks for the advice. would the removable rack be strong enough to carry weight of carrier + child? how heavy is your son? my son's about 15kg last time i checked. this would be a preferred option though as i only have to attach it for the times i need it
blink.gif nice one.
*
at that time my 4yrs old was about 15kg, this rack was said to be able to hold up to 20kg if not mistaken... i do try it myself by attaching it to the mtb (like the old day whereby you sit on the back carrier and cycle) and it survived (me=90kg++++)...

hi LYN folding cyclist/biker smile.gif

I'm planning to get 1 for myself.
I'm more into the big frame type. Plan to use is offroad, but maybe onroad(normal road) once in a while as well.
I'm 185cm tall, 89KG, and targeting 20" folding bike at the momment.

I've visited Vans Urban Bicycle and Folding Bike Malaysia(Damansara Perdana) earlier today, and the result:

Vans Urban Bicycle:
- Unfortunately they dont have any MTB at the momment. So i just tried out the road bike that they have in stock:
- Montague Crosstown(retail around +- RM2.6k) & Montague Navigator(retail around +- RM3.8k)
- Love the simplicity.

Folding Bike Malaysia(Damansara Perdana)
- No MTB folding bike at all.
Then I called Singapore Montague outlet, DigiNEXX and they have Paratrooper Pro in stock, with retail price of +- SGD 1.5K:
user posted image
- Bike details : http://www.montaguebikes.com/paratrooper-p...lding-bike.html

Anyone using this model at the momment?
Is it reliable on offroad mode?
The price is not much different than malaysia retail price after conversion.
Or do you have any other recommendations(for 20" folding bike) that i can go thru before deciding which brand to use?

Thanks guys, hopefully can join your group activity/ride soon! smile.gif

earlku got this Change Bike brand maybe he can advice.
