Hi myak9,

I am heading back to Penang tomorrow afternoon. I am planning to ride around Penang as the last I did was during high school times. A lot has changed so yeah, gonna do lots of riding around town. Not sure if there are any other Penangites around but I was initially planning to do it solo.

Let me know if you wanna ride.

Cheers

if you planed to have a ride... do let me know...
can do penang heritage ride...

I'm only gonna be reaching Saturday dinner time, so I think the only time to ride will be Sunday, if that's cool with you. I know that Sundays are normally family day so do let me know if you wanna do a Sunday ride. I can't confirm the actual time yet, so do let me know your availability and we'll see how are we able to arrange for the ride.

Cheers buddy!

let's go guys!

well if u haven't been in pg for a long long time then perhaps a mrng ride around georgetown would be refreshing for u

checking out the arts n taking pics at various alleys etc shld be nice if u like feeling touristy

otherwise, i'd suggest we go for the distance instead tongue.gif
*
Should be alright for me. I'll have early dim sum with my dad then start riding around till maybe around lunch time or so. Who else is up for the ride? I dunno if there are any other Penang kias here who wanna ride along but I'm definitely up for it hehehehe.

Well my plan is to ride and not drive while i'm in penang, in another words, I will be full time on my bike once I parked my car at home, unless its necessary for me to drive.

Give me a shout on your timing, lets see if we are able to meet somewhere. I don't plan to ride up to Tg Bungah or Tg Tokong, mostly will be around town exploring Chew Jetty and go have roti bakar at campbell street ehehehe something like that... nod.gif

speaking bout tyres....
it is one of the most important part of a bicycle, motorbike / car

different tyres really have varied performance, feel....

currently maxxis are having good reviews...

but very susah to find any online shop frm taiwan/ china selling it...
it seems maxxis oso not interested to sell their tyres back home in taiwan...
the usa estore have a complete range for bicycles...
but just a few on their taiwan estore...  doh.gif

the maxxis DTH 20x1.95 foldable tyre is selling at USD 33+ to 42..
way expensive than here...

so those who want it better go grab it...
before someone will raise the price of RM 160 a pair....  laugh.gif
*
Where do we get the Maxxis DTH tyres? I was looking around and realized that there is a maximum weight to different tyres, and I'm weighing around 85kg, so the tyre for my weight is 20" x 2.00 or more. Is there any bicycle shops carrying Maxxis Tyres here in Klang Valley or Penang? I also realized that the inner tube has different variant too. doh.gif

and they are  riding dth 1.95 .. no problem at all...  biggrin.gif

u better call up johnny to check whether he stil got stock....  biggrin.gif
*
Ah... Jonny from MBS @ BU?

Alrightie! Cos my ori Kenda is 20x1.50 which frankly i don't really like the handling. I feel that its a lil too thin especially when I ride on grass / soil. flex.gif

My fight is actually between Schwalbe Big Apple 20x2.0 or Maxxis DTH 20x2.20, or even 20x1.95 like what was mentioned in the earlier posts.

Now another thing that I just realised, the width of our bike rims will affect the maximum width of tyres fitted right?

Do correct me if I'm wrong as I'm a noob here biggrin.gif

is the dth 2.20 available here?
*
I'm not sure either that's why I'm consulting all the Sifus here biggrin.gif

And I don't really know what's the maximum width to fit onto my stock rims, unless I bring over to the shop for the pros to see and advise.

the dth they all using is 1.95 oni...

dahon fits the big apple 2.0 on kinetix comp rims ( speed p8 )
urs LG pop?
rims should fit, but i saw the fork kinda sempit...

speed p8 with big apple still have plenty of room for mudguard....

user posted image

Yup mine is LGS POP, and yeah the fork is rather tight even with stock Kenda 20x1.50 so I'm kinda disturbed by the fact that I might not be able to upgrade to wider tyres unless I change the fork doh.gif

Wider means thicker as well right?

robyn just sold his pair of Big Apples and I have a new set from a new Speed P8 which comes with Big Apples and Kinetix rims. I am going to use the old Weinmann rims and the Maxxis DTH. Anyone interested can PM me.
*
My LG comes with stock weinmann too. It's written 20x1.50/1.75, I am assuming 1.75 is the maximum tyre width allowed? What's the risk if I fit 2.00 onto my weinmann?

ur rim's width is more or less same as the kinetix comp i think..
won't have any problem for 2.0 big apple tyre...

fitting a wide tyre on narrow rim will make the tire higher...

user posted image

use this chart as a guide if u wana find out more...
the big apple is 50mm wide,
recommended rim width 17c - 27 c...

Thanks a bunch for this biggrin.gif very good reference materials for a noob like me smile.gif

I am assuming that by fitting either BA2.0 or DTH1.95 will make the space allowance at the upper fork even tighter. Fingers cross that LG can accommodate wider tyres.

Penang was raining the whole day...just had a brief chat...didn't go cycling...for I hate getting wet...

ohhh...shit...
I just notice that my mud guard is only 2" wide and it's curve...not like sks mud guard as it's squarer...the uncle took off from tern link d8 bike and sold to me...telling me that it's the same as dahon mud guard...how on earth can I fit a big apple to it...sure kena the inner side of the mud guard...not to mention I pay rm80 for it...
*
It was really nice meeting up with you myak9 thumbup.gif , rainy ride, was kinda cool to ride with that temperature though, just that when I noticed, it was already around 2pm rclxub.gif
