JPJ Defers New Tint Rules to 1st May 2015

PUTRAJAYA: The effective date for the new level of tint allowable for the rear windshield and passenger windows of cars has been deferred to May 1 next year, says Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad.

The original date for the enforcement of the new regulation, where car owners could tint their rear passenger windows and rear windscreens up to 70% (or 30% of Visible Light Transmission), compared to 50% now, was Nov 1.

Ismail said the new date was to give owners of imported vehicles ample time to replace the windshields and windows after JPJ received numerous appeals on the new ruling and decided to defer the effective date by six months.

“We made the deferment after considering the problems and difficulties of car owners who needed to obtain the legitimate replacement windshields and windows.

“They have until April 30 to replace them, and starting on May 1, action will be taken against those who do not comply with the new ruling.

“Six months is a reasonable period for owners to get the replacement windshields and windows,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Ismail said offenders of the new ruling would be slapped with a RM300 fine on the spot. They could also face a RM1,000 fine or two weeks in jail or both if their case was brought to court under the Motor Vehicle (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules 1991.

The exemption on tinted glass will be granted to vehicles used by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Sultans, governors, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, mentris besar, chief ministers, Chief Justice and enforcement agencies such as the police and Customs Department.

This exemption is only permitted for the safety of the individuals and enforcement officers carrying out risky crime prevention operations.

What is Visibie Light Transmittance (VLT)?

It is the percentage of visible light pass though in solar system.
VLT is not related to Ultra-Violet light and Infra-Red light as both of these light is invisible light to our eyes.

Hi there,

you can try to place your smart tag in the middle section of the windscreen (underneath rear view mirror) in order to get better detection bro smile.gif So far this has been an effective way bro smile.gif
