Hmm... I always wonder if there is any difference between the colors of the ROM?

and in the AMBER update, I noticed that the word "4G" has been changed to "LTE"...

this app is cool, please check it out as it gives you the insider information on your phone and it's free... battery stats are included as well as other diagnostics tool all in a single app... nicely built interface and it's FREE...

so far the significant update I can feel or notice in this AMBER update would be the Nokia Pro Camera software which allows instant view on the screen when you change White Balance and touch-to-focus works way way much better now with better depth-of-field (blur background when front object is in focus)... and I have change the default camera app to use this...

the Screen Glance is also good as you need not to press the power button now to wakey the phone which is good... just double tap and the screen awakes no matter if the clock is there or not on the screen... when the phone time out and goes into sleep mode, it will show the clock and then goes off... just double tap the screen and you are on lock screen mode... this functionality is optional if you dun like can turn off...

others such as Data Sense is to track your data usage is similar to other platforms, radio I dun use but is nice to bake into the OS now, 4G word is replaced with LTE, and I do feel the phone much snappier than before the AMBER update...

this is as much I can feel or notice after the upgrade... and yes it was a painful job to manually update coz it took me almost 1 hour to download back all my apps back from the marketplace and I have some apps missing coz it was taken away or delisted from the marketplace already zzz... hahaha... so if you're not really really desperate, wait for OTA!...

somehow I do noticed that the Store tile will refresh everyday between 11am - 12pm and 11pm - 12midnite... not sure if it's a coincidence though..

Microsoft has acquire Nokia...

What's your Lumia model? FM Radio not available on Lumia 620, Lumia 810 and Lumia 928...
If your Lumia is not the one listed above, maybe try to update all the Nokia Utilities app via SysApp Pusher

Yes this is correct. Amber and Bittersweet Shimmer are Nokia branding of update which is released by Microsoft via GDR2, GDR3 and etc.
Microsoft code named their Windows Phone major releases with the alphabet 'o' at the back for all of them e.g., Mango, Portico, and Apollo for WP8.1

Guys & gals, GDR3 preview for developer is out and those whom have registered as Developer can now download the GDR3 directly via this app from Microsoft... However, this is only updating the core OS and any firmware specific update from phone manufacturer is not included e.g., Bittersweetshimmer.. (if your phone currently has AMBER they mentioned it will still be there on your phone post upgrade) and you cannot downgrade the OS once you upgraded to GDR3 preview, one can only wait for the newer version until GDR3 hit RTM or GOLD...

If you wanna try but not registering yourself as a full developer with a whopping USD 99 or USD 19 (unlock up to 3 devices for developer), you can go to Windows Phone App Studio to register yourself as a developer with 1 device activation to get the GDR3 preview...

You will continue to receive the official update (and firmware) when they become publicly available, so there is no missing out of features, nor will you ever be behind

This will void your device warranty

Please read the Terms and Condition carefully before going for the GDR3 preview ya (my L920 warranty gonna end this December anyway so let's have a go!)

Downgrade?! For Nokia Device Back to GDR2 AMBER?!

A user in wpcentral managed to downgrade back from GDR3 to GDR2 AMBER on his Nokia at here... although Microsoft specifically mentioned you cannot downgrade the OS once you upgraded to GDR3 preview... that user is using Nokia Care Suite for the job!

P/S: Once you choose the Windows Phone App Studio route (free mar), you need to download the whopping 1.6GBSDK 8.0 + 960MB SDK 8.0 Update to register your phone as a developer phone to side lock... If you wanna do some extras reading how to register your phone to become developer phone, then hit this site



Upon successful registering your device as a Developer Phone, you will also received an e-mail to install a Microsoft Certificate which will allow your phone to accepts sideload or OTA from Microsoft preview channel

Once the above is done, scan this app below to get it OTA to your phone...

OK, GDR3 is up on my phone hehehe...

I dun think you can disable that feature

I suggest you bring back to that shop immediately today when they open since you bought it yday only try reason with them... hope that they will replace it...

I have been on LTE for quite a while and doesn't feel too much difference on batt. consumption as with 3G band...

In case if you install the GDR3 now it will void your warranty but soon after when GDR3 becomes General Available (GA), then your phone will be updated with the GA version and it will be back on warranty mode. That's how it should work on paper

The only concern would be between now and then if your phone got issue most likely you may have problem with Nokia Care Centre, but there are ways some had posted here that they managed to downgrade from GDR3 to GDR2 AMBER.
