i wouldn't say hate, its more of anime-otaku tend to keep to themselves and spend their entire paychecks or most of their paychecks on merchandise, etc. think of it as the segregation of the old D&D fantasy/scifi groups from normal society

well the live japanese series "Densha Otoko" is 1 good example of showing how typical Japs hate otakus and how otakus live their life as otakus...
