Saw some forumers comparing Kia Rio and Fiesta to the Suprima S and comment that the Proton is overpriced because Rio/Fiesta ave 6 airbags or more as well as ESC.

They seemed so focus on the specs that they forgot Suprima is a C-segment while Rio/Fiesta is B-segment, while Forte 1.6 SX which is also C-segment is not as well spec-ed and is 4-star ANCAP.

Right now you need to pay around RM100k or more for a Korean C-segment with similiar specs.

From my fathers car to mine, proton (not sure how much is really proton or mitsubishi ) are very okay cars to drive. Only thing is the quality. Why some people have simple problems like shiny panel coming off (i seen on Preve) or some car got rattles or cannot turn off engine and why some people say got no similar problem. Why cant they solve it at the factory first?  What about the TUV certification program?
*
TUV was only for the early batches of Savvy, after that no more.

was there no proton bashers during his legacy?...lol doh.gif
*
CFE, Preve, Proton R&H etc. were names associated to DSZ's term as MD. Right now it seems as if DRB is working to erase his association with Proton.

What about handling of this car vs other similarly priced cars like city and fiesta ?
*
Fiesta owner here.

The Suprima S feels more planted when speeding along the twisties, bodyroll is minimal and the stability inspires more confidence to push the car faster when entering corners, it is especially fun when taking those wide sweeping corners at high speed.

Steering is accurate enough as well. But being a 1.4 tonne car it is harder to place than a lighter car, you can feel the weight of the car working against you at very sharp corners....there is a reluctance to turn in, but that is to be expected for such a heavy car. overall I'd say the handling is neutral most of the time. What an enthusiastic driver will complain is the not very supportive seats.

Also, remember the Suprima comes with multilink independent suspension, that means it is stable when cornering on bumpy or undulating B-roads. This is something I complain most about Fiesta's torsion beam setup.

Ford Focus and Mondeo are probably the best FF cars in handling. Glad to hear that Suprima S is on the same level.

Focus equivalent handling on a RM80k car?

Hm. Whenever I touched the pedal in the Touran the FC jumped to 10l minimum... laugh.gif

However it is very nice to have lots of punch around 2000 rpm, makes driving more relaxed. Also, shouldn't CVT be the perfect gearbox? Have an economy mode, where it will maximize the fuel saving unless you kickdown. Stay in exactly the right range and all... after all that's the point of CVT...
*
A CVT is only as good as it's tuning. Best thing about a CVT is that you don't have to dismantle it to change the ratios, just plug it in to a laptop and flash in the new settings.

But if the settings are not optimized then it might not be more efficient than a normal stepped transmission.

The one I compared it to was the one without the supercharger (not the twincharger version with ~160hp). It's a fair comparison, and showing where most engines are compared to the TSi.

The only 2 difference in stats are the torque figure and engine capacity. The 1.4 TSi surprisingly producing over 40Nm of torque at lower rpms. VW is smarter in mating turbos and gearboxes to their engines and that was the whole point.
*
TSI is direct injection as well.

Still OK la. Last Friday I tried to chase a GTR35 from traffic light while driving a stock standard Kelisa.

Within seconds it completely disappeared....on a straight road. sweat.gif sweat.gif

Where got 2.0 TDI in Malaysia? Should be 1.8T, right? Old ones had a 2 liter turbo, but petrol.

Not to say they are slow, just... I'd be surprised if it was a diesel.

QUOTE(VagueConcerns @ Aug 26 2013, 12:17 PM)
From that torque figure he mentioned, maybe it's the 3.6 non turbo? Though I have no idea of older models offered here in Malaysia. For all I know it could be the V10.  laugh.gif

Does it matter? Any of them will smoke the Preve/Suprima without batting an eyelid whistling.gif

Is this a good idea or what? I read it from wikipedia:

Extracted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proton_Suprima_S
does it means, the passenger cannot watch dvd or browse internet when the car is running?? or only driver ? if so, how the hell it knows u r driver or passenger?  hmm.gif
*
It means all those things will only work with the handbrake pulled up.

Like the Myvi DVD player, it will stop playing when you release the handbrake. It's a safety feature (though can be bypassed aftermarket)

Who say not that far, he has almost 25% torque more than you bro

I'm glad Proton didn't sumbat a dual clutch in the Preve.

It will be more expensive and probably less reliable. In fact, I believe a dual clutch might sink the Preve.

I dunno what to say, speeding through the twisties was the highlight of my test drive, I was thoroughly impressed although I am only comparing it to my Fiesta. I have not test drive the Focus so I don't really know if it measures up. The only explanation I can offer you here is that the tires are over-inflated, but that's just a random guess.

Brakes were OK, I've driven cars with much worse brakes *coughMyvicough*, so while it's not the kind that invokes face-windshield-interface, it's not bad either.

Just my 2 sens.

Over inflated tires are a good guess though I suspect that's not the case since it has been available for testing for a couple of days now. Btw, what are you views of the handling aspects of the Suprima vs your Fiesta? I know it's not the same segment but just curious to know your views.
*
I posted a short review on the handling aspect earlier. Again, just my 2 sens based on a single test drive. I might go for a second test drive soon brows.gif

Google "new car checklist".

Do not sign off if there is something wrong with the car. Insist the SA to fix it before accepting the car.

I don't think can ask for another one since the car is already registered and insured in your name, unless it is something major like the engine is missing sweat.gif
