acrylics paints basically have 2 types..one is water based and the other is solvent based...

water base is those of gunze sangyo aqueos paints....and tamiya is alcohol based ..since alcohol can can disolve in water, then it can be said water base...but the term is not 100% correct... to replace tamiya thinner, u can use IPA (isopropyl alcohol )...water alone will work but will not get good finishing job...

the other type of acylics paints is solvent based...example gunze Mr Color range...this one is lacquer based acylics..and u have to use mr.thinner to thinned them...household thinner cap kuda belang can be used but no recommended..........

the tamiya one, is the basic setup..it's single action with air flowing continuosly all the time...press the trigger for paint... one of my first ab... (the old design)... but when u're less advance, this is obsolete to u...
and worst it;s run with 120V rating or the tamiya RC batteries.... not worth the money coz u will have to buy the voltage convertor

silver jet is a nice compressor.... i havent used it but got the chance to touch it ... it's tank-less diaphragm type compressor.... made by iwata sure ok punyer... with the iwata sprint jet technology, this is a good choice... if i ask me to choose between tamiya and iwata, i would choose iwata

hello sifus.. for quite sometime now, i have been interested in getting an airbrush and do paintings.. been reading up some materials, gathering infos and what nots.. so sifus, any of u use airbrush or know anyone that does? can recommend me a good brand to buy with compressor? how much would it cost?

would like a airbrush and compressor (based on what i read, this seems to be fundamental n good for beginner, plz correct me if im wrong biggrin.gif)

# gravity feed
# dual action brush
# pressure gauge and pressure regulator
# water trap
# with tank (portable enuff ones)(might nid to take in and out of hse, dont have seperate workstation/garage
)
here are some questions bout things im doubtful of..
1) the needle in the airbrush.. let say its 0.5mm, can i buy a smaller one and use it? for finer details..

2) what paint to be used.. any specific brands to go for? i heard there is few types (acrylic, urethanes, people safe).. which is the best to paint
let say metals(cars, pc cases too biggrin.gif)? and which for plastic surface? and i only need a few drops of paint into the feed rite sifus?

3) airbrush can be used on all surfaces rite? most sites that i read mentioned that airbrush can be used on all surface

4) i read and watch videos on cleaning airbrush, it seems there is a stand to put the airbrush when not using(fill with bit water).. is this stand
    included or seperately sold?

i tink thats pretty much my question biggrin.gif Thanks biggrin.gif

not a sifu but here's my 20sen

1. U cant use different needle as it is design for the same nozzle... some ab came with detachable nozzle so u can change the nozzle and the needle..so the answer is still no.....

2. many type of paint...all are usable in any surface...just make sure the preparation and application are corrrent... most hobbyist use premix hobby paint such as tamiya's, mr colors' etc....

3. yes

4. stand sold separately ....

hope this help...

What about the compressor? Can we find oil free compressor here? What HP is recommended?
*
any compressor will do...iwata comp are a bit pricey even if u buy it outside... i recommend PUMA aircompressor for oiless and quite... the 1/8 HP is good enough for hobby used... buy it cheap at TACKLY in segambut... used encik goggle again....

i used it for many years and easy to bright it to some show....
