Hey guys. Im a beginner for airbrush. I also have that Sparmax compressor with Water trap but Without that BIG BLACK THING under it (wat is tat by the way)

And my compressor don have autoshutdown and auto On.. like u guys discuss here. Why? Everytime i use i have to On it. One thing i dislike about the Compressor is...it is very noisy.

Anyway. Since im new i need some advice here. I bought this compressor from TAMIYA. but the airbrush itself was given by my friend's brother (graphic student) When i used the airbrush.. it works fine at first...but after sometime..

1) the brush head seems to be starting to clog. Isnt that smooth as when started using.
2) then... once in a while.. There will be Splashes of Water.. coming out.

So whenever that happen.. I have to do all the troublesome work.. Clean all the inside part all overagain.. somtime not really solve the problem after cleaning

Please is there any complete guide for me as a beginner? I want to use it for my gundam.

I experience Water Splash after using a while. is it because of the compressor over heating, or because the brush starting to clog?? i Notice when i use Airbrush..im always PANICking. Try to spray watever thing i can in a shot..because i scare the colour will dry up in the Airbrush. tongue.gif

Double Action airbrush= airbrush that can control the amount of paint to spray out? am i right? Im using an old olympos hp 100b-a

The Medea Paints u are talking about.. is it arcylic? Can it be apply for Gundam model?

Well a pic is worth a thousand words so this explain alot how and where i install my moisture trap.

ntc3freak: I suggest that you try to empty the water in the tank after every session. Open the valve which is located at the bottom and tilt the compressor to the front and later to the back. You will be surprised by the amount of water in it. tongue.gif

Hm.. I never know well how to operate my compressor even after 1 years since i bought it from Tamiya. The airtrap... I did open the valve below.. and let water out..But the amount is little..just few drop. And there are still water inside that i cannot get them out.. So i have to shake my compressor (turn upside down, left right) to force the water come out? I guess that's probably the cause to my problem (airbrush spraying splashes of waters once in a while)

NOoooo! Please don't soak your the whole AB. Guaranteed you will damage it for good.

The metal parts you can slowly and carefully use hardware shop thinner to clean with cloth & cotton bud.

Any part with rubber/plastic washer...  slight rub clean and quickly rinse with soap water.  Long exposure of the rubber/plastic parts with hardwareshop thinner will damage it permanently.

As for putting the whole thing back.. it all depends on the models and brand.  The basics are quite similar.. do a google for the AB schematics for assistance.

Be careful with the needle, nozzle and washers.. if you damage/bend it = gone!

Good Luck

So meaning..i can use the hareware shop thinner...not necessary using Tamiya thinner for tamiya paint?

Good tips. I face that problem ... And I always thought is because my Paint is starting to dry inside my AB!! So i have to RUsh Airbrush everything in the shortest time i can. end up spoiling my whole model.. especially when it splashes water.

So we should let d compressor to cool down once in a while? if i do that often.. Will the paint that I pour into the AB dry up fast and clog d Ab head? I have not been using my Ab for 2 years..

Mayb want to buy a new AB. my old AB was given by a graphic friend. which is quite old..and im not sure if it is still in good order or not.. since i never touch a New one b4.

Here's a map of the Petaling Street area.

Marked two locations there. These are the APPROXIMATE location of Venus Art and Nanyang.

And while you're there. Also check out the best wantan mee in KL, in the alley next to the food court. smile.gif

wow.. bringing ur compressor everything to corridor to spray ah.. very inconvenient oh.. Spray near windows la. i bought it 2 years ago. but only use a few times. There are times when my airbrush start splashing water. Im not sure is d airbrush problem.. or d compressor problem. Some people told me is d compressor overheat.

I think if u wan cheaper 1 definately shouldnt buy from tamiya. Those Artshop like nanyang, venus or Winsart (PJ) should be selling much cheaper.

thanks, may i know the exact location of those shop u mentioned? thanks.

now im using a pressure bottle, just plug it to airbrush, same function as compressor, just tat the pressure inside the bottle can finish, and the bottle not cheap, so not economical. tats why looking for a compressor.

i think if got water, is the compressor overheat problem, i also not sure, need to ask those hardware shop ppl.

I know this kind of airbrush is expensive to use in long term. and d pressure is inconsistent. So after u bought the compressor.. u will use it with this airbrush? If not mistaken.. i think that is a single action airbrush. correct me if im wrong tongue.gif

D airbrush im currently have is olympos...

may i know the difference between single action and double action? i not sure mine is in which category, dunno how to check also............

mine is expensive in long term, but quite convenient is shud say, portable, hehe. and super quiet, no noise, hehe.

pressure inconsistent? i tried use the pressure, it seems alright la. don press the spray button so long la, spray few seconds then rest few seconds, i think it can solve the problem.

now i saw some compressor owner say tat their compressor will have water come out la, i start to worry la, later it will affect the colour.... so now dilemma either stick to my original method or buy new compressor........
*
Single action means ur airbrush cannot control the ammount of paint to be spray out. Double action meaning u can control the amount of paint. Press down to release air.. then press backward to let the paint flow throught the AB. the more u push backward the more paint it will flow out.

Yes.. the spraying water trouble really is a pain in the ass. Really can spoil a nice surface. Not sure how to overcome this problem.

Go Venus Art for airbrush / compressor.
I got my 0.3mm double action Sparmax AB with the compressor with airtank for RM810. But heard that prices may have gone up.

The airtank is worth it. It's also like a built in watertrap, so I've not had problem with water spraying. And it gives a more consistent pressure. And the compressor switches off after every few minutes when the airtank is  pressurised, then it switches on again only when the pressure drops.

The Sparmax AB is good enough for beginners I guess. But it gets clogged up easily, with the modelling acrylics that I use. Planning to experiment with using alcohol or window cleaner to dilute my paints and see how it goes.

Otherwise, Nanyang has COMART MEDEA airbrush paints, and they work beautifully. No clogging.

Or, you could always hunt around for an Iwata double action airbrush. With Teflon coated needle and nozzle, less likely to clog.

I have the Sparmax mini compressor oredi. But it din come with the Airtank.. Can I add on that Airtank to my mini compressor? I bought it for rm 550 from tamiya. ARGH.. now to think of it is so not worth it.

Sparmax AB? Im not sure which AB is suitable for me. Which will u suggest? budget rm 200 below if possible. sweat.gif

Ratatosk... good sharing smile.gif Might need ur help when i begin airbrushing again. Until then, i will need to buy a new AB..probably d one u recommend Double action Sparmax AB rm 230. My old olympos AB given by people.. I think is already damage..

Bout compressor. mine is Sparmax too. But without the Airtank attached. So I have to Off and ON manually. And easily Overheat. Can I buy Airtank separately to attach to my mini sparmax?

No idea about the PUMA brand, but the air tank is supposed to prevent the quick overheating, as the compressor fills up the tank first, then cuts off. It only comes back on when the tank's pressure drops below a certain level.

U might wanna check with the shop on how long can u switch it on continously before it overheats. My Sparmax that I got from Venus Arts, I was advised by the uncle there to only run it for 15 minutes at a time. So u can use that 15 minutes for without an air tank to judge if the running time's alright or not.
*
Fyire, I think ur sparmax compressor should be d same with mine.. but mine bought from Tamiya, mini 1 without airtank. I didnt know anything about -only run for 15 minutes at a time. So wat will happen after 15 minutes?

I found my Airbrush will splash out water after using for a while... At first i thought is my AB got Clog.. SO d real reason it splash water is bcause d compressor overheated is it? blink.gif blink.gif

I got another question.. Today i try Handbrush my toys using Mr Metalic COlour- lacquer type.. It is damn hard to use... Even when I want to wash my Brush + dice oso takes lots of effort.. By d way im using ZIPPO fluid...

Mr Metalic colour + zippo + Mr retarded Milo -- hand brush.

I have nvr try AB using lacquer paint bcause im afraid it might clog my AB VERY easily.. n forever GONE~ pls advice me on how to AB using lacquer paint pls icon_question.gif

And comparing lacquer paint and acrylic... Lacquer is muc more durable compare to acrylic.. Am i right?

Fyire!~~~ YOU ARE D GOD!!! KIRA~~ HA HA

U explain my question in Such details that I think official AB guru oso will not tell. THANKS really A LOT.. your tips are really convincing.

You are right about im being phobia for using Lacquer paint for AB.. Cause all this time i have been using Acrylic for AB.. and to be honest.. AFTER 2 years of buying AB + Mini compressor.. I have never complete an AB kit. I get so irritated when the AB begins to clog ..so FAST.. took out everything...wash.. n spray again.. n d process keep repeating.. n once in a while will spray water n that totally spoil my kit surface..

Fade up... i put my AB aside.. until recently begin to carry out my hobby again. But right now im just waiting to move to a better n more convenient ROOM.. where thr is big windows, ventilation for me to do AB..

Now im staying in a room with tiny top windows n only hav AIRCOND.... try spray once in d aircond room.. FEEL LIKE GOING TO DIE ANYTIME.. ha ha. KIDS DONT TRY THIS AT HOME.
