Im not an expert but i think canon backsideillumination (BSI) sensor helps a lot in low light condition.
Im also glad that we can tweak canon powershot camera further like increasing the shutter speed to as fast as 1/100000 secs to as slow as 2048 secs (34min) and ISO from 80 to 80000
okay seems that this canon sx50 is a pretty good camera. n yes BSI tech is pretty impressive so far.http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=Canon+Sx50+concert

but the big big big differentiators, in 2013, are still sensor size and lens quality.
but then again, for TS, having a superzoom is definitely the more convenient and cheaper solution. if that is preferable, then the SX50 might be a good choice. just dont expect too much for the image quality.
