1) The old spark plugs have any signs of oily, carbon deposits?
2) Any pattern to the jerking/stalling, like time of day, after long drive, or just random?
3) After stalling, any difficulty re-starting?

I assume you mean that the signs of oil is on the tip / electrodes .
When the jerking occurs again, park your car in a safe place (no traffic or car-hijackers) Don't stop engine yet, open the bonnet and see if got sparks around the spark plug cables & distributor. (best done at night). Caution: high voltage , do not touch the cables.

Then stop the engine and remove the spark plugs for another look.

How did the mechanic confirm that it is the distributor? I am just curious to know how to do the tests, might be helpful for my future troubleshooting.

Just to confirm, you did not buy petrol from a station that was recently flooded, just before the problems started?

Just checking the possibility that your problems might be due to contaminated fuel. Many years back one such case happened, can't remember where or when, the petrol station underground tank got water seepage, many vehicles got engine trouble after filling from that station, symptoms similar to yours.

For your case, it would be advisable if you can borrow a spare distributor unit and use and see if got any difference, before putting your money on a new one. That is a mechanic is willing to loan one to you!

Hello, I'm driving LMST 2005.
Recently I'm having hard time to lock my car using remote. The door lock on driver side won't go down. I've to manually lock it.

After I unlock using remote, all the doors is unlock. But when I try to open the driver side door, it will lock back. I've manually unlock it again. I noticed that this only happen on driver side door.

This happen randomly. Sometimes can lock and unlock my car without any problem.
I guess both of this caused by a same problem. Can anyone enlightened me? Thanks.
