ai ya if you don't want to 'ma fan' and just take normal pictures (food/life happenings/etc) to upload to FB and stuff I think you save money by just using a good smartphone. No need to transfer here and there.

At times DSLR very 'ma fan' one. The size, the lenses, flashes, etc. Now a days take pictures also have to worry about safety, hai ya, very very 'ma fan' la.

But then with the correct settings and equipment some of the pictures you take will blow you off your shoes when you see it on your computer screen later. That is when you know why a DSLR is so 'ma fan', also you are now infected with DSLR virus and will be a slave to carry it with its lenses and flashes which will weight 10tons everywhere and anywhere.

If size and bulk is not an issue get d5100 cause its the most bang for your bucks, NEX5/3 if size is a concern. Body spend less, save more for your lenses and do get a proper flash. Do shop around cause you will find that prices vary. Timesquare, Pertama Complex and Pudu Plaza is a must when shopping around not forgetting Sg Wang and Lowyat too.

I cannot say bro. Have not been looking around shopping after I got mine d5100 last year. I would say lots of online prices are higher than brick an mortar shops now a days due to lower consumer spending. Lots of shops are throwing prices just to clear/rotate stock. You know la market is not as it use to be, actually quite bad la the market currently, that is why you must remember in this type of market condition consumer can demand better deals cause shops are desperate. Can nego nego till you get what you want (within reason la).

I really cannot say you will have to decide for yourself.

Very happy with it. Even last year when I got it, it was the most bang for my money

if you do go the DSLR route do get a prime like 35mm f1.8 or 50mm f1.8. Cheap with a wide f. Both under rm800 and really great optics.

the lens is useless unless you want to take Zooooooom photos. You might end up having to spend another few hundred to get a more useable lens.

If you are referring to lens add-on (micro/fish eye) what you find available for canon you will find for Nikon. All other effects you can do using photoshop. My d5100 has lots of filters and effects and to be frank I have not use any at all. What I do is shoot in RAW then use photoshop to create effect.

I would suggest get the camera with kit lens. You will be surprise how good the kit lens is. After playing around a bit then only decide what other lenses you may need. Remember this is your 1st DSLR camera. I think most of the other guys are already semi-pro to pro level here so they already know what they want (in terms of hardware and subject), so to them a kit lens is not adequate anymore for their use.

Like me till now still very happy with my kit lens and 35mm prime.

As for lens pens and microfiber cloths if not mistaken when you buy your camera they will give you a complete set free (I got that all free when buying my camera from 'Digital Mania').

Come on bro, just bite the bullet don't think so much. Buy your DSLR then start worrying about all the other stuff.

Let me be the 1st to say Welcome to the Nikon club.

Its your 1st DSLR (like me), don't be too eager to get the latest and best with the most megapixels camera. Buy what your budget allows. Just so you know, there are lots of guys still using their d40 and they are still taking lots of fantastic photos. Maybe they (those using d90, d7000 and above) take one step to make an adjustment while you (and me) might need 2-3 steps to do the same thing but end of the day you still get the photo. if your skills are better you might even take a better photo that a total idiot using a d3s or d4.

Lots of the guys out there use their camera to cari makan full time or part time, so minimum they need is a d90 or d7000 because when doing an event you just do not have time to fiddle with your camera.

Like me use this camera to fully understand how to take good photos, shutter speed, iso, and aperture. Remember to take photos as much as possible with different settings to learn and experiment. Don't use auto ya.

Yeah get a flash unit. Really helps oppose to using the build in flash.

Well if prices are low then its good. Just make sure you know how to check shutter count when you buy it. Shutter count should be ideally 0 when you buy a new camera. Just saying cause I know some shops selling used camera as new.

How to check shutter? Google it and you will know how ya (we know you like to ask lots of questions)

The website you quoted seems funny cause they still selling d5000 which is obsolete at rm2150. Also not sure why they say "import" while some other models don't. Make sure the camera you buy is a local set else you will have lots of headache if the camera have any problems.

When I bought mine, I took it home then check it but before I left the shop I made sure to ask the sales person about shutter count and he assured me that it is zero else he will change it for me. I took down his name and took a picture of him to be sure. When I check mine I got a shutter count of 1. 1st picture I took ma.

He is buying new, just advising him that some shops will sell used cameras as new that's all. Lots of dishonest shops/sellers now a days. I think its because our economy going south thats why.

UV filter just get what you can cause the kit lens is just a so so lens, even a super high quality branded filter will not make your pictures any better that what the lens is capable of.

Get one within rm50-100 is ok la for your kit lens. I think the cheapest hoya is about rm80 which is ok for your kit lens. Later when you buy a keng lens then only buy a keng filter lo. Since the purpose is just to protect the lens from dirt and scratches. If you need the best of what your lens can do for a few shots then just remove the filter lo.
