QUOTE(Agito666 @ Sep 25 2013, 10:15 AM) go for it, downside might be wallet slimmer for a period and you will feel D7100 very heavy due to get used with D3100 Yea, it's much heavier, I tried D5100 before and Out of topic, anyone can recommend any neoprene kind of strap which you sling over shoulder? |

Price wise, D7000 is definitely tempting at the moment, especially those used (but only few months selling around 2k for body only). Kit lens not necessary i guess.
Budget bit tight atm. Hmmm... This post has been edited by avanpiper: Sep 25 2013, 11:21 AM |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Sep 25 2013, 11:40 AM) Yeah, I'd definitely get a D7k... coming from a D90 user, I've always fancied a D7000 since its so much better >_< yea, thinking of saving that $ for better lens too in the future. There's someone selling at RM1.8k (body only), YN465, strap, charger, box, battery, Bag. And he'she staying at kajang (which is super convenient for me). As for the 18-105mm kitlens, I don't think you will need it since you already have the 18-55m which is essentially the same thing apart from the range. Better save the money for better lens later on, the photos will turn out very surprisingly better |

I'm still contemplating between changing body to D7000 from my current D3100 or get a new lens instead with speedlight (prob nikon sb700).
As for lens maybe sigma 17-70mm because I like to shoot figures. And kit lens currently is not good for close-up shots. So now, body change or new lens? *headache* |

QUOTE(alpha001 @ Sep 26 2013, 10:46 AM) That's what my friend suggested too, he said body doesn't make much difference.QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Sep 26 2013, 10:48 AM) The SB-700 can be pretty handy since it can be wirelessly controlled by certain, highed-end cameras i.e. D90, D7000 onwards. For a D3100, it might be better to just invest in a cheaper YN? I'm only having kit 18-55mm and 50mm f/1.8G at the moment.I think getting a D7000 is a better pick at the moment, then only the flash As for the lenses, what are you using at the moment? |

QUOTE(silrave @ Sep 26 2013, 12:04 PM) wah so nice xD like many other forumers have mentioned, just trust ur instincts and get one for a starter. I used compacts before too, grew tired of it then decided to try venture into dslr world. compacts have their advantages too - small, can fit into pockets, and much lighter while dslr will need probably a bag to store it and of course, much heavier and more obvious when ur capturing pictures (street photography). But ever since I got into dslr, I don't feel like returning to compacts anymore. Idk why either. i go photokem the feller also intro me but is nikon j2 i think he say very natural compare to nex i dunno la but when hold like small small when hold dslr like big big got feel lol XD Anyways, just get one and start shooting! |

QUOTE(ongdennis @ Sep 26 2013, 01:35 PM) get the body only...the 18-105mm just grab those 2nd hand will do... yea, agreed. Get body only. this will save u a lot...later u will look for upgrade and the 18-105mm will sit there do nothing... I kinda regretted getting both body+kit lens last time, after few months shooting, felt the limitations with 18-55mm (although it's a good lens for beginner) but sooner or later, you'll want to upgrade. I'm planning budget for new lens, flash and strap now. Friend said pudu plaza is camera heaven? So next week, we'll be heading over to survey and hopefully, I can get good deal for some new purchases. |

QUOTE(silrave @ Sep 26 2013, 01:44 PM) avanpiper nah, i'm not rich, still a student here (under scholarship) but I try to save & consider properly before buying. 2nd hand should be much much cheaper. so maybe no need for new kit lens at all. haha rich feller haha but no matter how starter also need a lens right? impossible get a body then lens hmm dunno kit lens 2nd hand sell how much xD can u list the price for body+kit lens and body only? If not much difference, then maybe kit lens will do for now since you're just beginning. I was like you too anyway. So if ur on tight budget, then just get the whole package with kit lens. Then as you go along, you can see what type of photography you enjoy more and like to venture deeper into. |

QUOTE(devilfather @ Sep 28 2013, 08:40 PM) question:..i wonder if i use high aperture to capture the photo, it will easy to make the background of the picture blur?? but if i use kit lens, the background will also blur in higher aperture right? Not pro here but what I know is kit lens like mine only has till f/5.6 and so the 'bokeh' shots are not as nice as those dedicated for it. You can still get blurred background with kit lens, just not as good. Also this 50mm f/1.8 is prime lens, unlike kit lens which you can zoom, with prime, you need to move with your feet backward or forward to shoot. Prime lens are good for portrait and of course bokeh shots if you like it, and sharper I think as well as works better in low light conditions because of its wider aperture (which allows more light inside). May I know what model you're using and your kit lens?so does my though correct if i say that the blur background picture are depend on how we set the DOF? so what is the main purpose of f/1.8 aperture lens? a bit blur blur theory for the blur background picture capturing technique... |

QUOTE(devilfather @ Sep 28 2013, 09:04 PM) D7000 with 18~105mm lens kit I wanted to change to D7000 few days ago...still thinking. I'm just currently using D3100. You can play around with your kit lens first cause normally when going for those picture need focus with higher aperture around f/3.5 and play with the manual focus only can get those effect which same as the prime lens f/1.8 (according to the thing i read from internet about prime lens)...that why i wonder the differences... |

I didn't get extended warranty too. You're planning to get D5100 or D5200?

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Sep 28 2013, 11:22 PM) Although you could always flip the screen around, if grains of sand gets in between, you will get scratches. I guess its better to put on a screen protector. Yes, I agree about the UV filter and screen protector, best to have them. I already had some scratches on the UV filter on kit lens (thank goodness not the lens itself). Same goes to a UV filter, you could always put on the lens cap what, but that doesn't mean you won't still get scratches :lol; In the world of photography, newer gears ain't always the best, the D5200 is not that good a choice, especially when you can get a way, way better (but only slightly older) D7000 at its price Check prices here: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&hl=digitalfm14 You seem to really love D7000 |

QUOTE(silrave @ Sep 29 2013, 01:33 AM) avanpiper huh uv filter? UV filter to protect lens, yes. Normally they'll ask whether you wanna include in your purchase or not (not sure if this is considered selling technique) the UV filter they sold me last time cost 100+ then it is protect ur lens or ? think D5100 first la D7000 first i dunno how to check 2nd hand condition 2nd what also dunno use that worry blur 3rd is bit heavy compare to D5100 |
