Need some opinion from those who are taking whey protein shakes as supplement to your normal meals.

I eat normally and tried my best possible to take in natural source of protein from my food intake however being a solicitor, i don't usually have the luxury of time to eat properly therefore i have resorted to whey protein shakes to supplement my protein index. I lift weights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so i definitely need that protein. I don't intend to increase in body size (yet) but currently, just aiming to get rid of all those excess body fat and increase my muscle lean.

I have only started whey protein shakes as of last month and my first supply is about to be depleted and i am currently looking for an alternative as Horley's 100% Whey is rather expensively priced, 340gram at about RM85.00. I have received recommendations of 4DN Whey Phase. The amount of protein per serving is more or less the same but my concern is the traces of creatin in it. I've did a search and found differing answers in taking in both whey and creatin together, some say it's absolutely fine whereas some gave a resounding no.

I need a confirmation so that i know i will not harm any part of my body from consuming this product.

Creatine is fine as long as you drink plenty of water....

Search around Lowyat food market for supplement deals.
There's also a thread in this section of the forum which has a list of online retailers.

You can do your research there for price and brands.
Creatine is extremely fine. If you're gonna be on creatine, take about 5g of creatine daily, and drink lots of water (like 4 liters a day). But anyhow, you should be drinking lots of water whether on creatine or not.

And I would agree that Horleys is extremely expensive and would avoid.
And to what alternative, just look around, read the nutrition profile, and your budget.

Stick with the popular brands i.e. Optimum Nutrition, Scivation, Dymatize, MusclePharm, etc. These have good nutrient profiles and are good value for money.

Thanks for the tips guys and i think i'll go ahead and purchase Dymatize's Chocolate Fudge Whey as so far, the price is the most affordable one for me and many reviews on the taste of the drink is the better amongst the rest.

Anyway, as i am afraid of breakouts and indigestion problems, i only take these drinks on my workout days (ie. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays) whereas on my "off" days, i just get the source from natural food products that i consumed. From the calculation, it should just about 60grams.

Will that hinder the growth?

Need some heads up because this is my first time doing all these and i intend to do it right.

I understand these are the natural sources of proteins but like i mentioned earlier, being a solicitor, i sometimes don't really have the luxury of time to eat properly.

One of it being, you'll be nutritionally deficient. Where do you get your source of daily vitamins and minerals? Meal replacements have that designed into the mix. Cheap ones will use synthetically derived ones, while more expensive ones will use plant derived vitamins.

You may have a point here but being constantly on the move on the outside, even if you have a few minutes to spare, there's no kitchen for you. I can't be cooking either in the office pantry laugh.gif whatever it is, i now have tried to make it a habit of eating at least 3 scrambled eggs in the morning so that i don't need to cramp all of my protein intake in one meal.

Whey protein shouldn't be giving you breakouts and indigestion, they're not steroids. But they can be heaty so do drink a lot of water (which you should anyway) and you should be fine.

You should be aiming for 1g protein per pound of lean body mass everyday, not only on workout days. Your muscles still need the protein to grow during rest days, so do take your shakes on off days as well. 60 grams will not give you optimal muscle growth, unless you only have 60 pounds of lean mass tongue.gif

Well, if you really don't have a time for a solid meal, try BSN syntha6, tastes good and always leave me feeling full for a couple of hours, but a bit pricey thou biggrin.gif
