He is a personal friend of mine from school. He was depressed due to being an outcast. I believe that this was done deliberately(but not maliciously) as he have always been challenged in terms of social skills. That among many other things led to his depression, and I think that his problem prevented him from seeking help. To those making jokes, I hope you'll feel ashamed of yourselves, making a joke out of a tragic incident. Those calling him stupid, yes, while it is stupid to take your own life, depression is real. A depressed person driven to suicide sees it as his only hope for an escape. This tragedy could have been prevented if someone was there for him when he needed them. Sadly though, none was there. I hope that this will be an eye opener, a wake up call for all of us. If you feel like you and your group have been boycotting a certain individual, think again, try to be kind to him. If you're feeling depressed, know that there is always hope, and think about your loved ones. Also, call your families before doing anything rash.

QUOTE(LamboSama @ Jul 20 2013, 10:49 AM) you weren't there for him, personal friend?how about his family? Like I said, he was a friend from school. He went to UTAR, and I went to study in Sabah. Hence, I was not there for him in person, although we kept in touch. I was always there for him when he needed to talk, other close friends too, his family was there for him too, but not in person. Up until the very end we were always encouraging him. Sadly though, none of us were sharp enough to pick up that he was suicidal, or we would have gotten him medical help. And that is my biggest regret. I wish I could have done more, I'll admit that I failed him as his friend. we can't always expect people to "help" us when we don't ask for help. a simple volunteering activities can help you make friends. But, what you said about it being his fault for not asking for help, he did, he tried to be a part of the group. Sadly, he was always taken lightly and not seriously and end up being an outcast, someone who doesn't belong(I'm sure you have an acquaintance who is being treated that way, we all do), this I believe among many other factors contributed to his depression. I agree with you when you say we can't expect help if we don't seek. While it is not our responsibility to identify every single one and help them, all I'm asking is that we be aware that there is more to people than meets the eye. I'm not blaming anyone, all I'm asking is for us to have awareness about depression and suicide. Its very real. Today it is him. Tomorrow, it could be you, your friends or your family. You never know. |

QUOTE(ISawYou @ Jul 19 2013, 08:26 PM) I pernah study utar, I know how it feels and I still remember it. Not wanna be racist, but it's not easy adapt to this kind of environment. People are quite pikcky when making friends there. Those with cars, even u face problem perangai mcam babi also can get friends. I regret masuk utar, honestly speaking. |
