Just want to compare between this 2 station which one more powerfull and compile to ur needs..

just read review form HWM mag this month edition, they said that powerbook more suitable in graphic application like photoshop compare to macbook pro..
emm but if we look at apple website they mention that macbook pro 5x faster than powerbook..

so just want ur guys opinion.. coz wanna to get one by end of this month..

i haven't read HWM, but I think they're referring to the fact that Adobe applications (Photoshop, Illustrator) are running slower. If HWM is referring to Adobe apps, then they are right.

The problem now is that PowerBooks are not sold new anymore

just wait for the Universal Adobe CS. Then Macbook Pro is the way to go.
If you really cant wait. just grab one 2nd hand powerbook and wait for the 2nd revision of Macbook Pro while Adobe should release the Universal CS by that time.

i heard adobe CS3 is using Universal code. Wait for that software lo. Next year release CS3

huh next year? maybe i need to find 2nd powerbook.. em how about the ibook? still available in market right? how this book perform? if compare with powerbook i think only diferent at cpu speed & display ram.. so why people said that powerbook was more powerfull?

btw i heard that apple will launch a new book call macbook to replace ibook which using intel same as macbook pro.. emm might be it will come with the same situation..

iBook is a stripped down version of PowerBook. The preformance is not par with Powerbook at all...It runs slower , compared to powerbook and its not 'Widescreen'...You can't connect to external monitor , use 2nd display and all other goodies...Its mainly for people who wants to do light surfing g, etc.....

You , see , RISC andd CISC....PowerPC chip uses RISC , which well......most of the application are written for RISC [OSX]...Thus , on the real processor it runs faster. But when you run RISC applications on CISC , it has to emulate , thus slowing down. TIll today , Powerbooks are still strong if you're doing Photoshop. But , you would lose out iSight and all other goodies that MacBook Pro has it. If you ask me , go for MacBook Pro. Why ?.....You would be lucky to enjoy OSX 10.5 , which would able to run windows programs on OSX.....

what i know...
if using apple appication like iDVD, iMovie and iPhoto... MacBook faster than PowerBook.
if using CS2 and Quark 6.5... PowerBook faster than MacBook

it's only a matter of time before the macbook will be faster than powerbook.... most of the universal version of pro-apps related drivers , patches are released already...just maybe some big boys wanna tunjuk terror la... release later..

Yes I notice thats tooo. Now many software already universal. no needs to worry. I'm waiting for Office Mac. Its still a bit slow.

For sure it's MacBook Pro cause it runs Intel Core Duo processor

For raw processor power and general speeds, the MBPro definitely kicks the hell out of the PowerBook G4. The only disadvantage is the unoptimised Adobe apps which should be optimised by next year (according to Adobe).

i hope so.. coz only use mac for this adobe software

if you really want to run Adobe stuff on a mac machine , run boot camp.... install windows... and run adobe stuff... there's a lab test on a mac book pro 2.0 and compared it to a pc laptop with the same specs...

Kinda. The firmware upgrade sort of lowered the temperature a little on my machine but it's still essentially NOT a laptop if you know what i mean.

macbook pro runs fine with CS2,my sisters are using it to do thier work

That's a viable suggestion, but defeats the purpose of using the Mac platform. The reason why Macs are strong in publishing? Font technology (ligatures, etc), colour management, etc. No doubt Adobe CS (and CS 2) will run faster in the Windows environment, but the fact is that the Mac OS is still far superior where publishing is concerned.

So running BootCamp and Windows is not an option. The only reason I'd want to have Windows running on my future MBP is because of games. Running at native, optimised speeds is very compelling.

It IS an option for now, until Adode apps go universal.

yeah the reason for apple developing boot camp is for 'option' to use windows in apple computers it's a marketing stategy too i think, more windows user will switch to mac because they can use both os in the same computers

It's a smart, strategic move Apple. Just need the software sorted out. Platform migration is a big thing. Takes time. Even a monolith like Adobe needs time to optimise/rewrite code.

and we will see there will be many procsessor revision from apple/intel, for MBP there already 3 processor changed (1.67 -> 1.83 -> 2.0 -> 2.16) july the yonah 2.33 will be out and then in august there will be 64-bit merom!

if we look at PPC, the ibook g4 1.42, already 1 year.. slow but also will not make the notebook so fast obselete.. if in intel? our notebook will be obselete every 6 month

That's quite true vandetta. Apple has traditionally held its value very well. In general, even with the Intel chip, Apple hardware still holds its value better as compared to PC counterparts due to its strong brand and also design.

I'm planning to buy a laptop also, i need it to do web design jobs like photoshop, flash, dreamweaver, imageready... n i saw the news tat mac book pro can run windows xp too... i wonder how it gonna run on it.. forgive me for my foolish for not understand mac too well.. coz mac usin 1 button mouse right? if use windows... those right click function is gone or wad?? and the windows is run in OS X or like those bootable choices let users choose to run windows or OS X when the mac is turn on??

No, Mac uses multi-button mouse alright. Your right context menu will still be there, don't worry.

If you use Boot Camp, you can choose to boot into Mac or Windows when you boot and hold on alt key. If you use Parallels, switching to Windows and back is only a couple of shortcut keys away.
