I have the experience of using both ford and Honda. Honda is much better value car and very fun also to drive. Too many good things about Honda compare to ford.
*
Why is a Civic better value then a Focus, quite possibly the best speced car you can get for less than 180k or so? In comparison the Civic looks like an empty box.

I have owned neither (only drove an older Focus, which was pretty nice), so I can't comment on that. I do prefer the Focus.

After trying them, which one do you prefer?

LOL...yes RV is not the problem. But a few years down the road when u want to sell the car to 2nd hand car dealer, the dealer oso dont wanna buy a Ford from you .

So its not about RV already.Even u throw at dealer cheap price oso dealer dont wanna take. Cuz the chances of dealer reselling the Ford is very very low.
*
I'm amused how people here have a crystal ball. Dealer won't take a Focus?

All from dealers.

And Ford is getting more and more popular.

Maybe some people just have that excess of cash to spend on a nice ride?
A lot of people considers RV because their financial is not really very very stable. To be on the safe side, stick with brands with good RV. I understand that logic.

But there are still people who have money to spend and want a ride worth the price. No need to think about resale.

So, if TS already said RV is not under consideration, why insist?
*
Yeah, I also don't understand it. He clearly states RV is not an issue.

And even if it were, it's a 10-20k price difference for a same year car. The older it gets the smaller the difference will be, and as time passes by RV will improve anyway. The Forte has a decent RV these days.

Anyway, Mamapapamsia insisted that even if the RV doesn't matter dealers won't take the Ford (well, even if so... put up an ad on Mudah and sell directly, can earn more because there's no dealer sitting in between). Then when I posted dealers who clearly did, he starts about RV again. Funny.

There was a forumer recently who desperately searched for a Focus. No demand? Yeah right.

@nagflar: Oh. I want that steering wheel. Leather... mhhh. But 5 seater only... otherwise good price. Aren't you looking to buy one?

Come on, if u had excess cash , would u buy a Ford? Most probably will buy bmw, merc, audi. Ford? LOL

Enough cash to not care about poor resale value, not enough cash to spend 150k more. doh.gif

Don't take risk on the Cerato, that car isn't cheap, money very hard to earn, so for safest buy would be Civic, Ford Focus is a very good car to drive, but in Malaysia not really nice to own, their service is very lousy because i went to the SC once!
*
Oh. Did you sabotage them?

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Then like that means you dont have excess cash. So dont simply day u have excess cash.

If u have enough cash to not care about rv , but not enough cash to spend 150k more means u dont have excess cash.

Simple as that. U only have just enough cash. Haiyo! Contradict urself in one sentence. sweat.gif
*
What? He may have enough cash that the 20k difference in RV that may occur many years in future doesn't matter to him. He may not have enough to spend 150k more upfront. There is no contradiction. I don't feel any pain when going to a nice restaurant once in a while. I couldn't/wouldn't want to afford paying a few thousand on a bottle of wine though.

Then your choice should limit to Volvo instead of anything else.
*
There is a difference between a Volvo and a Ford, yes, but it is not so big. There is a big difference between a Ford and an ASEAN Honda. Again, we are not living in a binary world.

Contis, new Koreans and EU spec Japanese cars are on a similar level safety wise. Some are better than others, but you can't really go wrong with any of them. Assistance systems are what differentiates them, like lane assist, auto braking etc. (I believe the first car I've ever seen to have this stuff was a JDM Honda that was imported to Europe by a professor at my university).

ASEAN Japanese cars are on a different level... and at that level they can't really be recommended.

You don't have to spend 250k on a safe car, 75-80k is enough.

have you considered others?

volvos40
subaru xv

in my opinion, much better than the listed here.
*
The XV has no boot, and since it is raised it probably won't be cornering well either (unless they made the suspension brutal). I'd rather get an Impreza.

The Volvo is great, but much more expensive.

full tank @ 800km...can beat diesel or hybrid rclxms.gif
*
Nah. A diesel will give you 1000-1200 km on a 50l tank, depending on driving style. I got 700 while driving a big MPV filled with people and luggage at 160-180.

Never test drove focus. But civic performance is very good to me. "Relatively" poor sound proofing at 160/hour is the only thing that bothers me. Build quality is good enough if u know what u get if u pay less money like 80k for vios. For peace of mind, go civic. Ppl will appreciate it and u dun need to waste saliva explaining how good is focus if u care what ppl think about ur choice.
*
That's never an issue. Drive around a short while and they stop complaining. wink.gif It worked with the Kangoo. It should work with the Focus too.

Aih... That makes u a salesman to hard sell your car. Anyway buy car u like, should not care ppl's opinion too much. Even if buy civic, so called "safe" but ppl will say: civic gen 8 looks way better. If u buy last year stock civic gen 8, ppl will say new version coming out u so stupid buy old one. LOL... Ridiculous huh
*
Haha, not really. It just shuts them up (though I've then heard inquiries that sounded like they want to buy one too...). People can be quite annoying when they tell you why haven't you bought a Toyota or Honda, etc. A quick test drive works wonders, and it doesn't mean you want to sell them your car.

The Focus is a closer competitor to the Golf/Jetta than it is to the Civic. Focus vs Golf. Focus ST vs Golf GTI. Focus RS vs Golf R. They are very close competitors in the American and European markets. The Civic is not even really in the picture.

The only similarity between the Focus and the Civic is the price. Other than that, the Civic can remain challenging the new Altis, Cerato, Elantra etc.

I don't know why people compare the driving dynamics of the Focus and the Civic. Take the Focus, switch it to Sports mode and floor the pedal. Then tell me if the Civic offers even anything close to that.

This one.

It is not so successful, but it can compete (though not as good). The problem is the one we're getting in Malaysia is not as good as the one they are getting in Europe (and nowhere near as attractive), while the Focus and Golf we are getting in Malaysia is every bit as good as the one they are getting.

DSG is AFAIK not a fan of traffic jams, you may better want to check about that. Though typically the clutch gets disengaged when standing and braking... so, yeah, just try to get more info about that. If DSG problems are very common under such conditions you may want to look at the Cerato or Civic instead...
