I have the old 1996 version. Its size is small compared to the new space shuttle. However the old one got the launch pad and assembling building. To me the old one has more stuff to do than the new one which concentrate on the details of the shuttle. The new one can fit a couple instead of the old one where only 1 astronaut can ride inside the shuttle.

Looking at this picture makes me want to build my AA. I am surprised it can blend with the modular buildings very well! Now if you have enough bricks to build the rear portion then your AA can become a real corner modular building!

Hahaha laugh.gif sorry man, I can't afford UCS version of shuttle. Poor fag like me only can afford smaller set of shuttle. cry.gif

I like vintage stuff, that's my character nod.gif So while some guys like to buy newest Merc or Honda, I'm looking for old Jaguar XK-S... Maybe a secondhand set somemore laugh.gif

My latest haul and most recent contruction; the new Republic Gunship! The one thing that took me by surprise was the sheer size of it, it is HUGE! Since it is now only approx RM 650 compared to the RM 800+ few years back, this set is a must get!

The Gunship next to some Creator sets from early this year. Although it is very big, it is very swoosable and by the construction methods used the whole structure is very rigid and strong. So no falling apart when you swing it around the room.

The Gunship with Padme, Anakin and others. There is alot of room for more troops and jedis. The 2 supers are just tagging along for the ride at the moment.
user posted image

For some reason you get 2 super battle droids to play around with. I feel sorry that this 2 supers are wayyyyy outgunned in this set.
user posted image

The gunship can also seat the entire fellowship! The hobbits and the dwarf can fit into those bubble turrets although they cannot sit down. Since Legolas is such a good marksman, he can hang on by the side and shoot.

I re-edit my original post. I wanted to say it does not fall apart. Mana tau it turns out it can now fall apart. doh.gif

Dun worry, they fix the problem of falling apart already, lots of technic beams and pins to keep the bottom and top part in 1 piece.

laugh.gif How about the two long long cylinder? Does it still fall off easily?

Btw, about your 1996 space shuttle, where's the rest of the launch pad? huh.gif

The 2 cylinders does not fall of easily, quite well connected to the overall structure. They even added a little handle at the top like the republic venator set for you to carry around.

The 96 space shuttle comes with the launch pad, just that I didn't build it when I took the photo. Just wanted to compare the size of the shuttle to the new one.

Vintage sets are VERY dangerous, since there is a whole 3 decades worth of vintage sets to choose from. One of my favourites is this set from the late 80s.

One of the reasons I like this set so much is the sheer number of printed parts. You see all those Shell pieces? All those are printed. So do the arrows, clock etc. The only ones not printed are the newer minifigs and sets.

I love vintage set laugh.gif While we are talking here, I wonder where is my 96 space shuttle right now. I bought it recently over eBay and its is on his way now. hmm.gif Hopefully it will not like my last Darth Vader's TIE fighter that propelled into lightspeed and got lost somewhere in the universe.

I have some old set posted in BOM and I think you came across it previously with a pirate ship that doesn't fit into the display case one a couple of weeks ago.. haha..

Well, I'm still looking for quite a lot of old set. Hopefully they have yet extinct from this surface of the world yet.

yes it does!
this version is actually 32 studs wide, same as a modular. So it's possible to modify it to a proper modular biggrin.gif
That's why I'm thinking of getting a second set to harvest the parts

and now AA + modular poison tongue.gif

Will skip star fighter and gunships for now. Good display set but can't play with it much. With limited display space, will have to give it a miss. The Jek Starfighter is nice looking too.
