I'm thinking of finally giving in and starting WoW, despite it being the end of the expansion. I'll shamelessly admit that I've played in a few private servers, but I quickly got bored due to having very little players and/or a dead community in general.

A few quick questions:

1) Which server are Malaysians at? I hear Gundrak US and Saurfang US. I'm looking for a server that is decently populated (not too dead, but not too long login queues) with an active AH and a community that is alive. I speak fluent English and Malay, but when I speak Cantonese I sound like gwei lo.

2) What is the community like? I hope they aren't mostly populated by 13-year old l33t Sp34kErz.

3) Any lag problems for people living in KL? I have Unifi.

4) Can I purchase a one-year card? Would it be worth it?

5) Are there any active guilds? I'm looking for a semi-hardcore raiding/PvP guild. Not too strict, but has an organized roster and all.

1. i cant speak for other servers, but currently alot of SEA players (msia, sg and indo) from LYN are "residing" in Gundrak. Its a medium pop oceanic server. but the server quite dead after midnight. but so far its not a problem for us cuz our own community enough to support each other in terms of materials that you couldnt find in AH. most of us speaks english but there are times it become rojak english and malay. xD

2. currently i think the youngest in our guild is a college student, everyone else are from the working class. no 13 yrs old kid though. lol

3. if u are using unifi, u should be experiencing latency between 200-300 ms which are considerably good.

4. that would entirely up to u. if you are not a person that gets burnt out easily, why not? cant comment much on that though

5. Actus Reus (H) from Gundrak is the guild for you then. we started as a pvp guild but slowly evolved into a pve/pvp guild. half of the ppl in AR are interested doing PVE, that is why we started raiding ToT recently. we definitely not the fastest progressing pve guild but we are progressing. we are also doing RBGs and arena frequently. a few of us are pushing high ratings in pvp also.

besides 5.4 will be coming in 1-2 months time. servers will be merged "virtually" , i dont know what it actually means but it will solve dead auction house and those low pop servers as stated by blizz. Gundrak is a medium pop server anyway. so it will only get better after 5.4.

Thanks for the reply.

How are the login queues in Gundrak? Are they very long?

And what about Horde to Alliance ratio. Don't want be stomped or stomp in every PvP match.

Is there a lot of area contesting? Like outdoor PvP. What about city raids?

no queues to get into gundrak. just a mid pop server. horde and alliance ratio about 1:1 the last time i heard.

if its normal BGs that u talking about, i aint going to lie , but horde stomp alliance in BGs. i cant remember when was the last time i lost a bg. probably a month or so.

our VGM, Arwenz likes to form raids to storm into alliance base/camps/cities. looks like u are a more of a pvp dude to me. thats great man!

In the event u want to roll into Gundrak, roll casters or healers, if possible. stop rolling paladins or any other melee classes. we have way too many paladins right now.

make sure u pm Arwenz on LYN. he wants to lvl a new class. i suggest u pm him first and he will send the invitation to u, once u activate ur new wow account, both of u can lvl under RaF programme, lvling will be 4x faster. since u are not new to wow, getting to lvl 90 should be ur priority. thats where the actual game experience starts.

I like both PvE and PvP. But PvP is certainly more exciting. smile.gif

Yeap, planning to roll either a Disc priest or a Bear tank. Maybe a moonkin. Used to play Ret Paladin in an old private server. I played once in TBC and they sucked really bad. But in WotLK, they were OP like crazy.

Any Alliance players from Gundrak US here? I'd like to hear your side of the story too.

Oh and, I may not decide to undertake the RoF program. I'd like to level normally and take my time to read the story and all. As useless/cheesy it may sound, I think quest descriptions are actually pretty interesting.
