Who cares about the other guitarist, It's the cymbals and bass that are drowning your guitar sound LOL!

When you scoop you mids, you're only left with the bass and treble frequency to cut through the band. So do you think your guitar has fatter bass frequency than the bass player and bass drum or treble frequency that could stand out from the hi-hat and cymbals?
It's all about finding your own little niche in the soundscape, so you can cut through. Or get a Tele. They cut through damn near anything...

I'm skeptical too, but some guitarists have gotten positive effects by just replacing the tubes... so there's still some hope.
Eric Johnson will recommend that we should rewire our amps to a certain direction, use XXX cables and Duracell batteries to power the pedals.
Everyone knows that to get the best sound from an AD, you gotta change the handle to a leather one. It absorbs the bad 14764.23hz frequencies. Eric would agree. Also, for best results, lick your jack before you plug in for that all-important enzyme bond.

It's annoying, but I think they have a reason to do so : The amp really doesn't sound as good on line out itself. They're probably encouranging people to crank their amp (In terms of volume) just like the good old way.
Though, they should've included a switch behind.
Yeah, the line out only takes the preamp output, and ignores the tubed poweramp. It's dumb, tho, in live situations, when you're running into the board and you need some monitoring on stage, but the speaker's not moving...
