well, i assume you need a small light notebook to carry around. if it's that so and with that budget, probably you could refer to this thread. Tainted listed a few laptops with different type of brands. smile.gif

hi, I've got a fujitsu lifebook. I find that their products are quite reliable but I should have got one with a better video card (no money ma!). The one I got used intel card.

and the current models are still not using Centrino Duo. I was getting one but decided to wait for the newer release. Can't bear thinking of buying one with Pentium M.. or Centrino only.

there are various laptops at 3-4k as mentioned above , in the thread posted by goliath.. for fujitsu at 4k u can get the s2110 lifebook. However, it runs an AMD proc. If you are an Intel fan, then i would strongly suggest u try other brands with your budget.

btw, Fujitsu came out with a Centrino Duo model, however its priced at RM10k++.

AMD Turion is pretty good , but the battery life is somewhat 'flat'...But remember its a 64-bit processor , so even if you buy'em ...you can run VISTA on that baby....biggrin.gif

Err...if not mistaken,Pentium M is just a part of Centrino.Centrino consists of Pentium M processor,Intel Pro Wireless card and Intel's motherboard(855,915,etc.).

256mb RAM will be enough for normal use like surfing and chatting...
It would be better if u could upgrade it to 512mb RAM.

No, at least go for 512MB. Make sure it's 1 x 512MB and not 2 x 256MB so that you could stick another 512MB in there when you've got the cash.

256MB is 'enough' if you're doing basic things , but if you're multi-tasking or playing games , then you would need 512MB....or even 1GB [Serious on the go person]

I am used to having 256MB..It just runs fine , for an average user

Recently saw an ads on Fujistu latest notebook with Intel Duo Core. The price starts from RM8k i think for the model with less feature.

If compared to Sony VAIO, I found out that VAIO SZ-15GP is a better buy compared to the RM8k Fujitstu. Sony only cost RM7k for the basic Duo Core model.
Both also have fingerprint regonition security features.

Yes very true. Same goes with NEC sometime ago...also considered one of the best in Japan. Got a Versa about 3 years ago. Regretted ever since...especially now as SC closes down. The availability of after sales service/service centers is one of my criteria in choosing a laptop.
