Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (JB) Updates for Nexus, Xperia, HTC One, Samsung & More

BY LYNN WALFORD07/25/2013TWEET

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (JB) Updates for Nexus, Xperia, HTC One, Samsung & MoreGoogle announced that it is now pushing out the Android 4.3 update for Jelly Bean to Nexus (4, 7, 10 ) and Galaxy Nexus owners. The update is going out over-the-air (OTA) and users will get a notification within a few days to a maximum of two weeks. Sony announced update plans, while other makers have not reported upgrade plans.

Android 4.3 come pre-installed on the Nexus 7, the Wi-Fi version of which launches on July 30.

The major featured added in Android 4.3 is that it offers restricted profiles, limiting access to apps and content which is helpful to parents or for retail use. It can let devices be used for credit card transactions without the users getting access to the some of Google account holders' information. Restricted users don't get access to Gmail, calendar, Play Store or in-app purchases. Apps can be chosen to for each user.

Android 4.3 also now supports Bluetooth Smart that lets mobile apps work with new devices like fitness sensors or a heart rate monitor.

For developers Android 4.3 supports OpenGL ES 3.0, an API for rendering photo-realistic graphics, especially useful for game apps. There is also a new Digital Rights Managment API for HD content that will be used by Netflix.

The Google Developer blog reported that it is over all faster than previous versions of Android.

Minor update features include:

Bluetooth AVRCP,
Dial pad autocomplete.
Easier text input.
What Will Be Updated?
Google Edition Samsung Galaxy S 4 and HTC One owners updates are expected to be very soon.

Sony announced that the the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, and Xperia Z Ultra will be updated to Android 4.3.

Through binaries, it was confirmed that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will be updated.

HTC told TechRadar it would be “reviewing Android 4.3 to see how this update fits into our plans.” A Samsung U.K. rep told Tech Radar that will reveal upgrade plans to Android 4.3 to selected Galaxy devices in the coming months.

There is no world, yet from LG or Motorola regarding update plans for the new Droid Ultra, MAXX, mini or Droid RAZR HD/MAXX.

Hi Guys,

I just got my I9505 2 weeks ago.

Anyone here experiencing battery drain of 1% every 2 - 3 minutes when using 3g/4g to surf facebook or websites?

I'm currently still running on stock ROM, no root or any nonsense yet. I've brought the phone to Samsung, and they told me it's completely normal; they've also replaced the battery for me saying that this should fix the problem.

I just want to know if any other I9505 users are facing this problem; I can see that in Malaysia, most people are using the I9500 Octa - So I can't have a proper benchmark.

I'm looking at screen on time of 1 - 3 hours max; could this be caused by a defective unit, or could this be caused by a poorly optimized firmware?

I've used a HTC One for a few days, and I do not see the same problems, battery seems to last longer on that device though they're both running on similar chipsets, minus the fact the One is clocked at 1.7Ghz

Thanks smile.gif
