Hi seniors, I am a Mechanical Engineering Degree fresh graduate. I received an interview invitation from SapuraKencanx in Lumut for position of assistance project engineer. I would like to know whether they would ask me technical questions about O&G during the interview, because my study barely touch about O&G, at most fluid mechanics. if they ask, what kind of technical questions they will ask? so that I could at least self study abit. thank you very much.

For fresh graduates, try to ask for RM4k per month. Even fresh graduates in PETRONAS nowadays could get starting at RM5k..... 

Hi I wanna ask for an advise.

I'm a fresh grad who just started working in local oil and gas contractor company in KL as Operation Engineer. My work rotation is 2 weeks offshore, 1 week off, 1 week office. My job during at the offshore is doing the chemical test and taking care of the operation there. My background study was in mechanical engineering. My total salary every month (basic+offshore allowance) is around rm6-7k. If basic pay alone, mine is rm3+++. Offshore allowance rm200-250 a day.

Here comes the situation,

This morning, I got a call from UMW oil and gas, and they offered me to work as trainee drilling engineer. The pay is lower than my current salary, basic rm2700/month and Im gonna need to sign contract with them for 2 years. I forgot to ask about the offshore allowance, but I heard UMW only pay rm100/day for offshore allowance.

At the first place Im not interested since thinking the offer is lower than my current salary. But during the lunch I talked with my colleagues engineers  who got more experience than me, they advise me to take the offer since I can learn a lot at UMW and the drilling job got huge and great prospect in the future.

So I wanna ask opinion from u guys, should I stay in my current company, or go UMW? Please help.

Hi guys, I am an ex-employee of SapuraKencana Bestwide (3 years of service). I am writing this to inform everyone who wants to join about pros and cons. Most of my friends currently inside is dying to get out, they have to serve 3 months notice period or pay it off (trap)  mad.gif

As the name suggest, this is a subsidiary of SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd. This subsidiary oversees the engineering and project management of Kencana EPC team.

The Pros :

1. Lots of projects (CPP and Riser Platforms) & project tender
2. Office in Publika  drool.gif  rclxm9.gif  icon_idea.gif

The Cons :

1. Below market salary for local engineers
2. Bad management system
3. No reward for performing staff
4. Very high turnover rate
5. Office politics (Inter-department and Intra-department)
6. Not as well established as other consultancy
7. Lip service to retain staff
8. No career prospect
For anyone who is thinking of joining this company, please consider twice. Oil and Gas is not everything unless the pay is good / career prospect is there.
