The reality, this scheme only want budget from government.. once got the budget they have income and generate money. How about the course? it is meet the oil n gas qualification in the world or it is standard AWS, CSWIP, API, etc? some of the course sorry to say not even meet the standard...just simply talk as longas they have money

really hate some of the company they take advantages since we have lot of people esp young engineer or beginners demand to join oil and gas and they conduct unnecessary training, seminar, course or anything else.

Nowadays whoever want to join need to do some study about the course & training, not simply take it because not possible you might enter oil and gas field.

At approximately 8.20 pm yesterday, 11 October 2013, we experienced a well control incident at a drilling rig working at the South Furious platform, located approximately 80km offshore from Kota Belud, North Sabah.

South Furious and the neighbouring Barton field were immediately shut down.

All personnel on board the drilling rig and South Furious platform, including Shell personnel have been safely evacuated. 2 liferafts were launched at 8.50pm and they were saved by JM Bayu and tug boat 2 hours later. Thankfully everyone is safe and accounted for.

I joined the OnG industry as a subsea trees design engineer about 5 months ago, and only came across this thread today.

Not sure what you mean by desk top engineering. Hmm....maybe I shall explain it this way.

The bulk of my work is on interpreting client specifications and generate subsea tree designs for fabrication. During the design stage, fabrication processes, techniques and availability need to be thoroughly considered to minimize manufacturing problems. This requires me to communicate well with shop floor personnel to understand critical manufacturing limitations. However, I am not directly involved in the actual fabrication work.

In the event of non-conformance, say fabrication errors, I need to provide technical assistance to resolve the problem.

I'm a mechanical engineer by discipline.

You are right there meonkut11, I did not network much in my university days. It could be inferiority complex, but at the time I did not see the point of networking if my academics didn't show for it. You could say I was ashamed. I decided to just work on bringing up my grades to a respectable level but it never did work out. Yes I did hang out with my seniors in university, but most of them are employed with Petronas, and the rare alumnis that I could find on LinkedIn, well let's just say I subscribe to the belief that any referrals should be based on the referee's knowledge of that individual's merits and strengths, and my low gpa doesn't help matters much. But like someone pointed out earlier, enough about gpa and grades, I've already had my little rant back there and what's done is done. For now I'm just getting back to the grind and hoping for the best. Thanks for the list of drilling contractors too, I will check them out!

Yes, I heard also they don't have much project after most of it have taken by TTHE or Sapukencang.
Some rumors said might be thousand of employees will receive the VSS soon due to project not too much.

Not sure if this is the correct thread but I applied for a job in BP and received the email that my experience matched all the requirements and will be reviewed further. How long more will I heard back from them?

The super-structure previous is Semi FPS and I am the one of employees build it. We have Spar Kikeh, Cendor, Kinabalu and etc. However as current only have TLP-Malikai. Not much project coming in and not like previous.

They are mini company in previous, but now they are giant which buy out operator company (Newfield) and drlling (Seadrill), also had delivered FPSO Berantai which fabricated at Keppel and so many of achievement milestones.

Come on la...i work for a shipping company and based at MMHE for 1 year now. The culture in MMHE is bad to the bone. There are scrapping off the bottom of the barrel. Now no more new job except Malikai and those lousy marine repair/ship drydocking work which will never turn a profit.

MMHE don't respect client....their customer. Also the corruption in this yard is like cancer. Buy safety sign for ship order from Greece. Just imagine. Pasar mlm also jual safety sign...u buy from Greece.

Many contractor now facing bankruptcy. No more job. MMHE also dont pay contractor payment. Even rental car given to Shell, MMHE dont pay then car rental company tarik the car...ekeke. This what happen. I work there 1 year already maa...

ha ha ha.. If the FPSO does not link to Petronas, Bumi Armada will never JV with MMHE.. There is one FPSO (Spread Mooring) currently in MMHE, I have completed 2 FPSOs (Turret Mooring), but this FPSO still not sail away..

as a chemie, do u think this (steel industries) gonna be beneficial for me?

Hi guys. I have recently received a rather lucrative offer to join a downstream gas company in Malaysia. Basically a service and product provider, my position would involve project management (operations) as well as overseeing compliance issues with new and existing installations. I would also deal with HSE standards, costs, budgets, while dealing with various vendors etc. The basic salary is high, with generous employee benefits.

Another offer that I have received is from an upstream consultancy firm. It is basically a purely engineering design related job scope. The pay is slightly above the current market rate, however it pays roughly 1.5k lesser than the other employment offer. Their benefits are pretty much standard to other organizations within the same field.

Truth to be told, I am very confused indeed. The downstream gas offer is a very, very lucrative offer indeed. However, I am not familiar with this field. I hope any seniors here working in this field could provide me with some advice?

May I know what is the career prospect for an Engineer working in Offshore and Marine Industry to venture into Oil and Gas Industry? What I am trying to say is that the experience earned and the career development. Since Offshore and Marine industry focuses mainly on oil rig construction, ship repair/building/maintenance/upgrading/conversion, and offshore engineering. So, from my observation both of these industries have quite a number of similarities in terms of the field they serve.

Nope, to be honest. I am an entry level Civil Engineer. The nature of job scope is inclined more towards design rather than site experience. So, it is safe to be considered as a design engineer in this industry.
