so, everyone is anticipating that the new Altis and new Mazda 3 will be around RM120K with similar specs as 2.0 Cerato? currently Mazda 3 2.0 CKD highend HB model already RM126K OTR without insurance and look at the latest Mazda 6 and it is the most well equipped car; no doubt but it's also the most expensive in japs D-segment.. honda city also already approaching RM93k la....if Bermaz is selling the latest CKD Mazda 3 1.5 at 120K and Mazda 3 2.0 at RM14+K...still worth?

dont get me wrong as i own a shitty as well...but sometime as in reality, must see what is nice-to-have and must-have.. IMO, safety feature is something must have and cannot be add-on later....

why everyone is so obsessed abt RV when come to choosing which cars to buy?...u all didnt think of ur family members that u will ferry in the car? IMO, safety always come first as i am a father and it is not fair for me and my wife to be protected by airbags while my child sitting behind has nothing for protection...surprisingly, alot of ppl willing to spend alot on family insurances, medical cards, children education funds or fixed expensive house alarm, fixed grills at home for protection and when come to choose which cars to buy...always choose RV first, safety second...

Not to offend anyone, if u worry about RV; it is clearly u are not in the state to buy that car...seriously, i once asked a 7-series owner...will he feels butthurt when he decided to sell his almost a million 7 series after 7-8 yrs...he just smiled and said...work harder to make money to cover the loses la...must looking forward mah... rolleyes.gif

From what I can gather between Elantra 1.8 and Cerato 2.0

Elantra ............    Cerato
150ps .........................              160 ps
2 airbags  .......................              6 airbags
Price : 114903 .............        118,888
No Rear aircon  ..........        With rear aircon
No memory seat ...........      With memory seat
Built in GPS  ...............      Without GPS
Rain sensor    ...............    Without rain sensor
No puddle lamp  .............  With puddle lamp & pocket lighting
Without xenon  ...............  with xenon headlamp
Leather seat    ..............  Leather seat with air ventilation
Without Flex steer ..........    with flex steer feature
without front sensor .........  with front parking sensor

I stand to be corrected on Elantra specs if you find any discrepancies.
Thank you

cerato 2.0 is using hyundai's latest engine series...NU engine with CVVL and 1 thing which i think is a must...steering mounted paddle shifter which i think is very good.. u can change gears (if needed) anytime without lifting ur hands out from holding the steering...cars like Lancer or inspira is steering rack mounted which u cannot shift while cornering..

1.6 or 2.0?

Both of them have different gear ratio.

some test drive reviewers mention..

1.6 = 110km/h @ 2.5K rpm
2.0 = 110km/h @ 2.3k rpm

theoretically, u can.... but JPJ still can saman for illegal HID conversion and SC can void ur electrical warranty.... plus the HID is with auto leveling mechanism thus u need to get the sensors install too.not just plug and play dude...

Mostly this small overlap happens when the car on the opposite lane terbabas and enters your lane, nothing u can do to prevent it from happening. The volvo got good ratings, and the japs, only Honda and Subaru got good right?
*
small overlap accident by definition is when the corner of ur vehicle(20%) hit a none moving object such as pole or tree...if kereta terbabas and masuk ur lane...that's frontal collision already....

this the frontal collision...(40%)

camry also scored "P" while accord scored "G" in the similar testing last year.... guess what...Camry still outsold Accord in US.. brows.gif

Kia Cerato outshines Honda Accord in crash test

Press Release: New Zealand Automobile Association
Media Release:  19 AUGUST 2013

Kia Cerato outshines Honda Accord in crash test

Korean car manufacturer Kia has outperformed Japan’s Honda in the latest Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) crash tests.

Today ANCAP announced a 5-star safety rating for all variants of the 2013 Kia Cerato small sedan and hatch introduced to New Zealand in June.

The 2013 Honda Accord missed the 5-star mark during the frontal offset crash conducted by ANCAP earlier this year, receiving 4-star ANCAP safety rating.

While ANCAP reports the Honda Accord’s passenger compartment held its shape well during the crash test, the foot well-mounted park brake experienced excessive movement creating the potential for significant lower leg damage.

Both cars are equipped with a range of safety assist technologies (SAT) including duel frontal, side chest and curtain airbags along with antilock brakes, electronic brake distribution and electronic stability control. Also both cars performed well in the side impact test.

The Cerato offers seat belt reminders for all seats compared to the Accord which has reminders fitted to the front seats only.

AA motoring advice manager Andrew Bayliss says Kia successfully demonstrates 5-star safety performance doesn’t necessarily come with a 5-star price tag.

“It’s pleasing to see the relatively inexpensive Kia Cerato receive a 5-star safety rating, but surprising and very disappointing to see the Honda Accord falling short.

“In today’s safety conscious environment, car buyers have a wide choice of cars in the medium saloon sector and most of those have a 5-star ANCAP safety rating,” Mr Bayliss says.

NZ Transport Agency road Safety Director Ernst Zollner welcomes the latest ANCAP test results.

“These results show the value of the independent test system and provide consumers with valuable information to help them make informed choices,” Mr Zollner says.

“Safe vehicles play a big role in protecting road users in the event of a crash. So the Transport Agency and its road safety partners encourage people to buy the safest car they can afford.”

ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, the Australian Government, the New Zealand Government, Australian state and territory governments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.

The full list of ANCAP’s vehicle safety ratings, other vehicle safety information and the specifications of the rated vehicles are available online at aa.co.nz or rightcar.govt.nz.

Price Guide (recommended price before statutory & delivery charges): $29,990

Options fitted to test car (not included in above price): Metallic Paint $520

Crash rating: TBA

Fuel: 91 RON ULP

Claimed fuel economy (L/100km): 7.4

CO2 emissions (g/km): 177

Also consider: Ford Focus Titanium (from $32,990); Hyundai i30 Premium (from $29,990); Toyota Corolla Ultima (from $31,990); Volkswagen Golf 103TSI Highline (from $31,990)

You might have missed the massive advances of the Kia Motor Company -- if you’ve spent the last couple of years under a rock! No longer the ‘cheap and cheerful’ poorer cousin of sister company Hyundai, Kia has now surpassed the highly regarded reputation of its Japanese contemporaries on many fronts.

A big call? Perhaps. But, as our upcoming comparison will show, the latest Kia Cerato has taken a giant step forward from its predecessor, and is now at a level that places it in direct competition with European rivals Ford and Volkswagen... More on that story on these pages soon.

But what of the Cerato in isolation? The value for money part of this model’s equation alone is enough to see it pose a serious threat to most of its rivals.

Our high-grade Cerato SLi featured 17-inch alloy wheels (with full-size matching spare!), leather appointed seats with heaters up front, auto headlights, front and rear parking sensors, electric tilt and slide sunroof, an electrochromatic mirror, cruise control, and keyless entry with push-button start among its long list of features.

Add to this one of the most comprehensive warranty programs in the business (five years / unlimited kilometres), included roadside assistance (for one year) and competitive servicing costs, and the Cerato makes a lot of sense, at least on paper.

And then there are the accommodation levels...

The Cerato is a larger car than it seems and offers commodious seating with generous cargo space (421 litres). The seats are both supportive and comfortable with sufficient dimensions in all but headroom-- perhaps as a result of the rakish roof and fitment of a sunroof (on this occasion).

The driver’s seat offers generous levels of adjustment, as does the steering column. And visibility is on the better side of good in all directions except directly behind.

The ride is exceptionally quiet (we measure it at 75dBA at 80km/h) and reasonably compliant, though we might add that the Cerato’s crisp handling does come somewhat at the detriment of outright acquiescence. This is especially the case on corrugated dirt roads or cobblestone lanes; a moot point, perhaps, considering where the Cerato is likely to spend the vast majority of its life.

We’re not ultimately sympathetic to Kia’s (or for that matter Hyundai’s) view that steering weight equates to feel, and find the Cerato’s wheel presents a digital feel akin to that of a very good game console controller. However, it is switchable, and in the lightest ‘Comfort’ setting will meet the ‘easy to park’ demands of the majority of buyers.

Don’t get me wrong; the steering isn’t so light as to affect the Cerato’s handling, for as we touched on a moment ago this is one of the small sedan’s many strong suits. The car points accurately and holds its line at speeds well beyond what it could expect to encounter in ‘normal’ driving. The body remains composed through sudden lane-change manoeuvres and is equally consistent when slicing through a challenging section of winding road.

The Cerato’s 2.0-litre engine is currently the most powerful in its class. It offers 129kW (at 6500rpm) and 209Nm (at 4700rpm) and accelerates the 1319kg sedan to 100km/h in 9.1 seconds (as tested).

There’s enough motivation down low in the rev range to ensure you’re not constantly on the throttle, too. While the six-speed automatic transmission provides fluid and decisive shifts.

Geared to minimise fuel consumption, the Cerato’s transmission sees the tachometer’s needle rest at 1900 revs at 100km/h. And with lower revs equating to lower fuel use, the Cerato managed an around town average of 7.9L/100km and a highway tally of 5.2.

Average it out and our week in the Cerato consumed 6.5L/100km, almost a litre less than the published combined cycle figure.

Safety has also improved for the Cerato, and although the car’s crash test results are yet to be announced, the improvements in body structure design and added safety equipment levels are almost certain to see it earn a five-star result. Commendable considering where this particular model was at just five short years ago...

So if you’re soon looking to purchase a small sedan (hatch and coupe versions of the new Cerato are coming soon) it’s time to re-evaluate your perceptions of the Kia brand.

As Molly Meldrum would say, “do yourself a favour”, and go test drive a Cerato. It might just get you out far enough from under that rock to put you in the driver’s seat of one of the best small sedans available.

RANKING
5th Place: Nissan Sentra
Poor handling, poor fuel economy, and a shorter feature list outweigh a low price and big back seat.

4th Place: Honda Civic
A weak drivetrain, poor fuel economy, and frustrating nav system sank a solid entry.

3rd Place: Dodge Dart
Sport handling and a long list of features weren't enough to overcome a high price and terrible gas mileage.

2nd Place: Mazda3
An enthusiast's special and fuel-sipper to boot, weighed down by a heavy price tag and missing features.

1st Place: Kia Forte
Handles well, sips fuel, loaded with exclusive features, and priced just right. What's not to like?

quite number of potential 2.0 owners already paid their booking fee in end of Aug and yet to see their 2.0 including me.. sad.gif i think by Q1 2014 is the best bet...some potential owners already waiting for more than 3 months.... some so frustrated and went for other brands...

whatever result cerato achieved in NTHSA or ANCAP testing is the one u going to get in malaysia since all cerato sharing the same platform and safety spec..... sometime those crash test is very subjective... like the 9th gen honda accord....performed excellently in NTHSA crash test yet failed to score 5 stars in ANCAP...
